Name: Caitlin Elizabeth Cobb Hometown: Pike Road, AL (outside of Montgomery) Major: Political science with minors in Spanish and International Studies Relationship status: Single Favorite movie: Pretty Woman Favorite place to study on campus: âMy living room or Starbucks.â Favorite place to eat in Tuscaloosa: âInnisfree: I love the pub fries.â What clubs are you involved in? âIâm in UA AAUW, College Democrats, the Blackburn Institute, SGA, Alpha Mu Omega, and Peer Leaders.â What is your favorite part about your major? âI love anything and everything to do with politics, so being in a political science class, where I’m learning the reasoning and forethought behind some of the political actions that people take is always really interesting.â What is your favorite part about being in Alpha Chi? âProbably the amazing and fabulous girls I’ve gotten to know since freshman year. I have to admit that I was trepidatious going into rush, but the relationships I have built because of my sorority have proved all of my doubts wrong and definitely shaped my collegiate experience for the better.â What do you love most about horseback riding? âThis might sound kind of lonely, but being at the barn is kind of a sanctuary for me. It allows me to get away from the hectic, overwhelming life that college students live. It’s like my little piece of heaven. And I’m still the weird horse girl who’s obsessed with everything to do with her horse, so just getting to spend time with her and kind of develop âour bondâ is nice.â What are you most passionate about? âThis is probably really cheesy, but I feel very strongly about politics in the state of Alabama because it’s something I see myself getting involved in in the future and because our state has so many things going wrong that I hope to help rectify later on. And more specifically, criminal justice is probably the area in politics I’m most passionate about, especially the death penalty, prisoners’ rights, and prison conditions.â What has been the best class you have taken at UA so far? âWithout a doubt, the two classes with Dr. Stephen Black, Moral Forum and SaveFirst: Poverty in America, have been the most impactful and memorable.â Describe yourself in three words. Sarcastic, Honest, Intelligent What do you think is your best quality? âAs I mentioned above, I am very, very honest, which can be either a good thing or a bad thing. But if you ask any of my friends, they will tell you that I never hesitate to voice what I’m really thinking.â What’s the best advice you have ever gotten? âMy mom has always told me, âUnexpressed gratitude is like no gratitude at all.â This has really shaped the way I approach every situation and how I view life in general because it always reminds me of how fortunate I am to have the things I have and to be in the position I am in today. If we fail to recognize all that we have been blessed with, then we are failing to see what we can truly do for others, which is the most important thing I think we can do in life. I mean, we are blessed with so much, and to squander that by not giving back and recognizing how fortunate we are/ our undeserved privileges is sort of a shame.â Where do you see yourself in five years? âHopefully, I will be out of law school and either practicing with a criminal defense firm or working at the Equal Justice Initiative, or a non-profit like it, doing work on death penalty cases and criminal justice reform in general.â
