Name: Heather Pierce
Hometown: Madison, AL
Major: Criminal Justice
Relationship status: Single
Favorite band: “Rolling Stones. I absolutely love Mick Jagger.”
Favorite place to study on campus: “Bruno or the new Starbucks!”
Favorite place to eat in Tuscaloosa: “I’m a sucker for Canes. I spend all my dining dollars there every semester. Other than that I’d probably have to say Mugshots, especially the All-American burger.”
What is your favorite part about your major? “I like criminal justice because it’s like a puzzle. You have to work together to find all the missing pieces and put them together. It’s a challenge, I like it.”
What is your favorite part about being in Gamma Phi? “If you would have told me 5 years ago that I’d be in a sorority today, I probably would have laughed in disbelief. But, Gamma Phi has had such a strong impact on my college experience. I’ve met so many strong women through our chapter. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but I’d go with being involved with Girls on the Run. It’s really neat being able to impact young girls’ lives in a positive way.”
What has been the best class you have taken at UA so far? “By far, Doug Klutz’s Intro to Criminal Justice. That class made me change my major. I really hate lecture classes, but I learned some of the most interesting things in that class.”
Who is your celebrity crush? “Oh man, this is hard. When I was a kid, it was John Travolta. Now I’d have to go with Ryan Reynolds. His family is actual goals.”
Describe your dream date. “Going to the drive in! I’ve always wanted to go, but haven’t really had the opportunity to.”
Describe yourself in three words. “Loud, energetic, and sarcastic.”
What do you think is your best quality? “I think my best quality is being able to stay positive. Having to go through hard times really sucks, but it’s good to know that if it’s not okay, it’s not the end. I’ve recently realized it does more good to focus on the positive instead of all of the negative.”
What’s the best advice you have ever gotten? “‘Just be yourself.’ My mom always said this to me and she’d always follow it up with “If they don’t like you for you, they’re not worth it”. It sounds pretty simple but it’s definitely the best advice I’ve been given.”
