10 Lines in Black Panther That Will Leave You Shook

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

Marvel’s Black Panther is the eighteenth film to come out within the franchise, and breaking all sorts of records previously given. Forbes has stated that the film has “earned $112 million over its second weekend of domestic release” and shattered many records including being the second fastest movie to earn $400 million in ten days. The movie, directed by Creed’s Ryan Coogler and starring Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyongo and more, has been praised as a cultural and critical masterpiece.

I’ve watched the movie a total of three times already and there are a few lines that completely captivated the audience. Whether this was from laughter or a tear-jerking line, here is a rundown on the most significant lines in Black Panther:

1. “In times of crisis, the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.”

If you stay for the after credit scenes Marvel movies always promise, you can catch King T’Challa throwing a little bit of shade at our current administration.

2. “Bury me in the ocean with my ancestors that jumped from the ships because they knew death was better than bondage.”

Michael B. Jordan’s role as Erik Killmonger was arguably one of the best parts of the movie, it’s only fitting that his final line before his death is as brutal as this one is.

3. “Don’t scare me like that, colonizer!”

Shuri, the 16 year old princess of Wakanda and head of the technology department for the nation, had quite the few laughable lines. When Everett K. Ross wakes up in Shuri’s lab, her reaction was pretty appropriate.

4. “Please don’t make me listen to your music.”

Everett’s reaction after Ulysses Klaue offers up his mixtape is the same one I have after a frat bro does the same thing.

5. “A man who has not prepared his children for his own death has failed as a father.”

The late King T’Chaka offers a little bit of somber advice to his son as he grieves.

6. “Just because something works, doesn’t mean it can’t be improved.”

Shuri is as smart as she is funny, offering some advice when T’Challa insists the technology is enough.

7. “If you say one more word, I’ll feed you to my children! … I’m kidding. We’re vegetarians.”

This back and forth between M’Baku and a frightened Everett Ross gave some necessary humor during the most serious part of the movie.

8. “Would you really kill me my love?” “For Wakanda, no question.”

During the midst of the main fight, the lines exchanged between warriors and lovers W’Kabi and Okoye were intense. Okoye really proved how #WakandaForever she is.

9. “Hey auntie.”

The amount of sass behind Killmonger’s face when he said this to Queen Ramonda is enough to make your day.

10. “ What are thoseeeee?”

Shuri, proving that a vine is even better when using it on your older brother/King.

These were just a few of my favorites out of the movie. They are the ones that stood out. What were a few standout lines or scenes from Black Panther for you? If you haven’t seen the movie in theaters yet, hurry up and go watch the glory that is Lupita Nyongo fighting Michael B Jordan on the big screen.
