Chocolate Detox: Post-Valentine’s Day Health Tips

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

Valentine’s Day is known to be the chocolate-giving, dessert-eating holiday. But there’s no need to feel bad after eating some sweets. With a positive mindset and a regular workout routine, getting in shape can happen in no time. Here are some reminders to a healthier you.

1. A Friendly Workout Routine

Especially when it’s cold and dreary outside, it can be very difficult to bring yourself to the gym. But once you go once, it’s much easier to go again and again and eventually you’ll be going to the gym regularly. Grab a few friends (and your iPod) and hit the gym together. Make a workout schedule that you can all do together. By working out with other people, you’ll be forced to continue even when you feel like you can’t. Use your friends as your motivation!

2. Regular Schedule

Determination is a key component to any daily practice. So make it part of your regular routine to do some sort of exercise. No matter how much you workout a day, just be sure that you do it everyday. Once you stop once, it’ll be hard to go get back into routine. And for those days you just don’t want to leave your dorm, do a few jumping jacks and lunges.

3. Workout Playlist

When you’re running or working out alone, it can get boring to just hear the sounds a gym. So make yourself a great workout playlist to some upbeat music that will be sure to pump you up and give you that extra boost.

4. Eating Healthy

Working out isn’t just about the physical exercise that’s involved. It’s also about the food choices you make. Don’t eat just because you feel like it and don’t eat too close to bedtime. You don’t want to throw away all that exercise you just did! So choose your foods wisely. Build up on the protein, fruits, and veggies. Only eat a little bit of carbs and don’t go crazy on the desserts. And don’t forget to treat yourself to a little something extra a couple times a week. It can get hard, but in the end, you’ll feel so great about yourself.
