Dear Taylor Swift

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

First of all, I’d like to wish you a very happy birthday today! You have become more successful than some people have become in a lifetime. Even though you are so talented, you bring yourself to become one of the most down to earth celebrities I know. You have helped so many girls through difficult times (breakthroughs, break ups, breakdowns), with your music, which is a very admirable deed. Some may even label you as a role model. Though I agree your professional life sets a great example, it’s your personal life that worries me. Don’t get wrong, I admit the guys you have dated are pretty darn cute, but honey you need to calm down. I have stumbled upon the news that you are now dating Harry Stiles of One Direction. Whatever happened to that nice Kennedy boy? Was that just a summer fling? Shame, I could have seen you with that Kennedy last name.

I give you props for upgrading through the years from that Jonas brother to Jake Gyllenhaal (by the way, your children would have been beautiful). Lately, I’ve noticed every time I turn whether to a newsstand or the latest TMZ article, you seem to always have some man candy on your arm. I do not remember a time where you were single. You are the Taylor Swift, the performer who is able to sell concert tickets in less then five minutes. I am hoping you’re just doing this much dating to find some inspiration for your next hit break up song on a new album. In the words of The Help, “you is kind, you is smart, you is important.” It’s time to become that strong, independent woman we know you can be. According to a credible source (a.k.a. one of my best friends who follows celebrity gossip), you’ve had 13 boyfriends in the last two years. No wonder that’s your lucky number. Instead of hopping to the next guy, you should discover who Taylor is, not Taylor plus one. As much as girls can relate to that Hopeless Romantic, show them that a successful woman doesn’t need a man and is perfectly fine by herself. Hopefully instead of writing songs about the same topic, your inspiration can come from how strong of a girl you can be.
