Her Campus American University has had a tremendous year, and we are incredibly thankful to our readers and followers that have kept up with our journey this semester. In addition to hosting several noteworthy events here on campus, we reached a major milestone on our social media outreach as well. At the end of march  we reached 2,000 followers on Instagram (@hercampusau). Through social media, special events, and of course our weekly articles, we have been able to engage with the amazing students on our campus more than ever before. Thank you to everyone who has shown us support, and we’d like to provide a recap of everything we accomplished this semester in case you missed anything!

Women of the Year
You can check out an in-depth recap of our Women of the Year event here, but we wanted to include this event in our semester recap because of what a fun and inspiring day it was. We honored five incredible women on our campus, one from each school, and were able to hear them speak about their accomplishments and what inspires them during a brief speech. Savannah McCann, Dana Foley, Erica Jurado, Sabrina Hernandez, and Jenna Caldwell each were featured in an article on our site, which highlighted their accomplishments in more detail.
Women of the Year has quickly become a favorite tradition for our chapter, and we’re looking forward to continuing to honor and empower the amazing women here at AU in future years.

Spring Fling
“Spring Fling” was a joint event that we held on the quad in partnership with Spoon AU. We had free food from Buredo and Dough edible cookie dough, both of which were extremely popular with hungry students on our campus. We also were able to give our fun items from our Spring Survival Kit and our partnership with Bliss Spa, including mini lotion, sunscreen, hair products, and stickers. We loved having the opportunity to partner with another student media organization and are hoping to have a similar fall-themed event next semester!

Women in Business
Our Women in Business event was a panel featuring three women professionals working in the business sector. The panelists included: Meredith Burnett, a professional lecturer at Kogod; Lesley Siu, a Market Specialist at the Peace Corps and the founder of Her Campus American; and KaDeadra McNealy, a statistician at U.S. International Trade Commission and the founder of Millennial Nail Bar.Â
The panel was led by our very own Events Director Em Hilberer, and included topics such as navigating salary negotiations and working as a woman in a traditionally male-dominated field. Our panelists gave advice to younger women in the audience, such as to find a mentor and to not let people make assumptions about based on your appearance or what they think you can/cannot do. The panel was following our previous “Women in STEM” panel that occurred last spring and touched upon similar topics, and is a series that we would love to continue in the future.

Graduating Seniors
While we’re excited about all of our accomplishments this semester, we’re sad to be saying goodbye to two amazing members of our chapter as they graduate: Shannon Exley and Chloe Kim. Shannon has served as a writer, managing editor, and Editor in Chief, and currently works on Instagram as part of the social media team. Chloe is currently our President, and has also held a number of previous positions including Business Director and Vice President. Check out their individual articles on our site to learn more about these amazing girlbosses and the highlights of their time at Her Campus American and AU overall. Our chapter won’t be the same without them, but we can’t wait to see what they will accomplish in this next stage of their lives.
