Halloween is just around the corner. In preparation for all of the holiday events, count down the days until October 31 with these fun cartoon movies to get you in the Halloween spirit.
Itâs the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown
In this classic, Charlie Brown gets rocks during trick-or-treating, and now I always respond with, âI got a rock,â when people ask me what I got while trick-or-treating. While everyone else is having fun, Linus waits all night for the Great Pumpkin, who brings toys to the good kids who wait for him in the pumpkin patch. How can you go wrong by celebrating the magic of Halloween with the Peanuts gang? Catch it on ABC on Halloween this year.
Casper
Casper the Friendly Ghost, the movie that convinced me that all ghosts were not in fact scary. In the movie, Harvey, a paranormal expert, is hired by Carrigan Crittenden to banish Casper and his uncles from the abandoned mansion. Casper and Harveyâs daughter, Kat, become friends during Casperâs quest to complete his unfinished business on earth and move to the afterlife. Though this movie may not be scary it conveys a message of giving to others, namely in Casper giving up his chance at humanity to let Harvey come back to life. I won’t spoil it for you too much, but Casper even gets to join Kat at a party in the end!
Tim Burtonâs The Nightmare Before Christmas
Jack Skellington, The Pumpkin King, becomes bored with Halloween Townâs celebration of its namesake’s holiday. He discovers Christmas and attempts to take that holiday over by kidnapping Santa. Ultimately Jack fails, but comes back to Halloween with a new appreciation for the holiday and sets everything right with Santa. You canât go wrong with a Tim Burton movie during Halloween, all of his movies have a creepy air about them that sets the spooky holiday mood. Plus, Jack and Sallyâs romance is one for the books. Catch The Nightmare Before Christmas on ABC Familyâs 13 Nights of Halloween.Â
Winnie the Pooh Boo To You Too
Just like the Peanuts gang, Winnie the Pooh and friends always seem to have a movie for every holiday. And just like my other childhood staple, âItâs the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,â I can never go a Halloween without watching this one. In this adorable Halloween themed Winnie the Pooh cartoon, Piglet is scared to trick-or-treat. His friends throw him a âHallo-wasnâtâ party to make him realize Halloween isnât scary. Piglet gets scared by Tigger, Pooh, and Eeyore in costume, and runs into the Hundred Acre Wood. While everyone goes in search of Piglet, Piglet finds his friends and sees Pooh is in trouble. Piglet becomes brave and tries to rescue Pooh. In the end, everyone celebrates Pigletâs bravery. This story is a great reminder of leaning on your friends when in need.
Wallace and Gromit the Curse of the Were-Rabbit
This movie is sure to bring some humor to your Halloween celebrations. Itâs a humorous take on the ghouls and werewolves of Halloween. Wallace and Gromit must help save the town from a mutant rabbit before the annual vegetable competition. Wallace and Gromit capture the rabbits to prevent them from eating the vegetables and attempt to brainwash them. Unfortunately, while attempting to brainwash the rabbits with the Mind Manipulation-o-Matic, a rabbit fuses to Wallaceâs head. This causes the machine to malfunction, leaving Wallace and Gromit with a semi-intelligent rabbit that does not eat vegetables. The pair believes the rabbit is the were-rabbit. When in reality, Wallace is the were-rabbit. He has rabbit characteristics because of the accident with the mind manipulation machine. In the end Wallace becomes human again, and the town is safe from the were-rabbit.
