It is finally that time of year – when New York City is taken over by both old and young designers, high fashion models and eager buyers. It’s New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2013! Fashion Week is a weeklong (February 7-14) event that gives designers/brands a chance to display their latest looks and for people, like me, to find out what is “in” and what is sooo “out.” Every year I faithfully follow the media to find out the hot and the not-so-hot collections/trends that are established in this week dedicated to fashion. So here are a few of my favorite NYFW collections!
Kate Spade’s ode to New York City
Personally, I absolutely adore everything that Kate Spade designs. No seriously, I’m obsessed. This year, the brand is celebrating its 20th anniversary and did so by paying its respects to the grand old New York City. The props included things like a checkered TAXI cab, an Empire State Building, iconic street signs and even cute little hotdog stands. Most importantly, the clothes and accessories lent to the NYC theme. My favorite was the clutch that sported “TAXI” on one side and “Off Duty” on the other side.
Juicy gettin’ juicier
When most people imagine Juicy Couture, they think of the infamous velour tracksuits – shout out to middle school – but Juicy Couture is waaayyy more than just comfy lounging clothes. The brand took a very bright and bold approach to Fashion Week this year. Juicy hit the runway with vibrant colors and patterns such as stripes, Hawaiian florals, and leopard print.
Mazes, twists & doodles
Lisa Perry wins my award for the best collection of modern chic clothing. Mazes, twists & doodles, the cute and clever name of the NYFW 2013 collection, featured over-sized polka dots, psychedelic swirls, stripes, classic plaids and bright colors like hot pink, and cobalt blue.
Michael Kors, enough said
Of Kors I loved everything about the collection. The models hit the runway in an array of prints but houndstooth, fur and camoflauge were the spotlight. Similar to Lisa Perry’s collection, MK popped colors like bright orange and cobalt blue within the mix of black and white. The futuristic style was a hit from the tweed pencil skirts to the sweetheart cut black dresses.
