Tis the season of papers, projects, and tests before a break. Yes, midterms are here and the start of stress begins. However, don’t be stressed every minute of everyday while studying for midterms, it’s not healthy. Make sure to take a break and let loose a bit because life isn’t about being overwhelmed. Here are some study breaks to get you away from the books!

Go See a Movie

Go to a theater and treat yourself to a flick you’ve been dying to see along with some buttery popcorn. You easily get into the relaxed mode sitting in the cozy theater seats watching your favorite actor on the big screen. If you want to double your relaxation seeing a movie, go to Georgetown’s theater and see a film in their lazy boy chairs.

Exercise

A great way to blow off some stress steam is to work out. Whether that’s taking a walk or lifting weights, your mind focuses more on the strength and cardio aspect than the academic stress. One great workout to make you feel better is going to a Soul Cycle class. Their music is loud and motivating, making you feel good while you release toxins of stress!

Get Cupcakes

Treating yourself is huge while studying. Everyone always loves a treat they can enjoy. Stop by Georgetown Cupcake, Baked and Wired, or Sprinkles Cupcakes in Georgetown to pick up your favorite cupcake. If you’re feeling extra happy, get another cupcake for later when you get stressed again.

Cook

Making a meal takes your mind away from books and flashcards. Whether it’s slutty brownies or your favorite pasta dish, cooking is a great study break. You are able to have fun working with different ingredients to make a rewarding dish for all of your hard work.

Get a manicure or pedicure

Use Eagle Bucks at Tenley Nails in Tenleytown to get a manicure or pedicure (or both if you are feeling a bigger treat!). The massages on your hands and feet make you feel stress free. It is also fun picking out what color you want your fingers or toes to make a statement with, especially something to stand out over Spring Break.

Even though midterms are here and Spring Break is around the corner, it is important to give yourself a break. Life isn’t about being stressed 24-7, it’s about enjoying every minute of it. Although there are always bumps in the road like midterms, everyone should have happy moments to escape those bumps!
