While the red wave did not hit Congress as expected, Republicans were still able to take control of the House of Representatives.

Republican members will hold the majority in the 118th Congress.

The 2022 midterm elections were historic.

There will be a record number of Latinos in the 118th Congress, one of which will be the first Gen Z member of Congress.

Maxwell Alejandro Frost, the Representative-elect for Florida’s 10th district, is focused on progressive policies.

The 25-year-old has a history of activism and is a long-time affiliate of the March For Our Lives organization and ACLU.

As Republicans gain control of the House, Nancy Pelosi stepped down from her position as Speaker of the House.

Pelosi will stay in Congress to represent California’s 12th district. Pelosi has formerly served as the House Democratic Whip and was the first woman to hold the position of Speaker of the House.

Although Republicans now hold the majority, there is internal conflict among Republican members.

The race for the new Speaker of the House has made it apparent that the Republican majority is Republicans versus MAGA Republicans. In other words, Republicans who supported Donald Trump and those who have called his bluff.

The minority leader, Kevin McCarthy, faced Andy Biggs of Arizona for the title of Speaker of the House.

“I’ve seen enough. I cannot vote for Kevin McCarthy as House Speaker. I do not believe he will ever get to 218 votes, and I refuse to assist him in his effort to get those votes,” Biggs tweeted.

McCarthy won the position with a party vote of 188-31.

In the 2022 midterm elections, the GOP gained eight seats and Democrats lost nine, giving Republicans a 220-213 majority in the House.

The 118th Congress will be divided with Democrats keeping the Senate majority and Republicans holding power in the House.
