Where Gossip Girl Characters Would Shop in 2020

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

Serena Van der Woodsen:

Where Serena would shop in 2020…

Impressions: This is her staple store based on her Season 1 style, she goes here because even though she loves New York she’s always wanted to escape to Miami and live that “party-girl” lifestyle.

Abigail Lorick: Serena wore her dress in Season 1 Episode 4 and  I have reason to believe that during a pandemic she would keep in touch with her designer to see if she could get any discounts on the clothes.

Urban Outfitters: To try and get everyone to stop bullying Dan she shops at Urban in later seasons, Blair gets mad at her because of statements in the media talking about how Urban is known for fast-fashion, and after some passive-aggressive text messages, gets her to stop shopping there.

Where you can buy clothes based on her style:

Nasty Gal: I think this website would be Serena’s favorite discovery in 2020 because they have dresses that you’ll feel confident enough to walk to the grocery store in (with your mask), yet feel comfortable enough to eat a bag of chips in.

Princess Polly: I think that this is where Serena would go to buy a cocktail dress when she doesn’t want to put her money towards a “trendy” outfit, even though in my opinion, this fits Serena’s aesthetic perfectly.

Lively:  While Serena Van der Woodsen isn’t really the actress who plays her, Blake Lively is, and she made a sustainable undergarment brand that Serena (and you!) should look at.

Blair Waldroff

Where Blair would shop in 2020…

Lily Pulitzer: Blair idolizes Lily because Lily is a socialite who was able to make it big in fashion. Blair turns to her when she gets into a fight with Elenor about one of Blair’s designs, but Lily encourages her to follow her heart.

Ralph Lauren: Blair would definitely use the “create your own” section of Ralph Lauren’s website to create her own clothes without doing all the work because she doesn’t have the motivation to be an essential worker during the pandemic.

Duo NYC: They have a gray blazer that looks really similar to the one she wears when she takes over her mom’s fashion company.

Where you can buy clothes based on her style:

Nordstrom: Their business casual section is the type of section that Blair would be wearing during 2020 because you can save money while looking cute and because Blair’s whole high school clique would start shopping there.

Bluefly: This small boutique in New York City has reasonably priced dresses that Blair Waldroff would keep in her closet while Paris with Chuck because of the good memories she has of them in high school and college.

“Leighton Jumper”: While Blair Waldroff is sadly not real, the actress who plays her Leighton Meester is, and in 2019 she made a jumper with the intention of promoting sustainable fashion which I think Blair would be in favor of in 2020.

Jenny Humphrey

Where Jenny would shop in 2020…

Most of her clothes are homemade…  And she’ll get mad if you ask her where she bought them because she thinks the clothes she makes are better than anything you can buy in a store.

Francesca’s:  She doesn’t shop often, but when she does, it’s at a small boutique that few people know so she can feel like she’s a trend-setter.

Thrifting:  She likes it because she can make her own designs over solid colored clothes.

Where you can buy clothes based on her style:

You can make your own clothes!!: I’m not saying it’ll be easy but if you Google images of her and find some YouTube videos, it’s achievable.

Etsy: In 2021 Jenny Humphrey would definitely have an account where she lets out her grungier side and feels kind by telling people what not to do for their brand to blow up.

Band Merch:  If there’s one trend I’ve seen come back this year, it’s listening to your middle school music and Jenny is definitely listening to My Chemical Romance and buying their clothes.

Chuck Bass

Where Chuck would shop in 2020…

Gucci: Chuck only buys the best of the best, and he knows that Blair secretly likes Harry Styles, so he imitates the iconic Harry Styles & Gucci style.

Global International Menswear: Although Chuck is from New York and he loves his local favorites, he knows that because he is better than everyone else he shops from here to ensure that everyone knows his superiority.

Versace: This upscale Italian fashion company seems like a staple in his closet at the Bass Empire.

Where you can buy clothes based on his style:

Rag & Bone: They have a lot of basic solid color shirts and jackets that remind me of the outfit Chuck wears when he runs off to Europe.

Amazon: They have lots of inexpensive and bright men’s clothes similar to what Chuck would wear in earlier seasons.

Men’s Wearhouse: Similar to Nordstrom, they have lots of adaptable shirts and easy pre-styled looks!

Dan Humphrey

Where Dan would shop in 2020…

Thrifting: Except he won’t let Jenny do anything to his clothes even when they get holes in them. But, by season 4 Rufus (his dad) will notice he’s stopped wearing them and donate them to charity. When Dan finds out about this he’s relieved because he won’t have to worry about his friends judging him for the fact he thrifted.

Theory Brookfield:  This store is known for its solid color t-shirts and is the kind of clothes that Dan will brag about to Chuck and Nate even though both of them think it looks too much like Target.

The Gap: This is Dan’s guilty pleasure, he shopped here when he was younger and couldn’t move on.

Where you can buy clothes based on his style:

Target: Not only can you buy Dan’s solid color t-shirts, you can also buy a nice pillow for your coach.

H&M: Serena has told him to not shop here for clothes because she’d rather he treat himself, but Dan likes their pants and candies by the register.

Abercrombie and Fitch:  Don’t ask me how I know this, but this is how he feels like Chuck Bass on a budget.

Nate Archibald

Where Nate would shop in 2020…

Vineyard Vines:  I don’t think this one needs an explanation.

Country Club Prep:  This store is very similar to Vineyard Vines in that it has a preppy vibe to it, but it’s located in Virginia, which Nate doesn’t really care about because he’s from New York. However, he does like to walk by Serena and see if she’ll notice that his outfit doesn’t have the Vineyard Vines symbol.

Brooks Brothers: The store (very similar to Nate in later seasons) is losing all its money and currently going out of business, but they still have stuff that looks trendy.

Where you can buy clothes based on his style:

Banana Republic: Their solid color t-shirts seem like something he bought while dating Vanessa but still wears while quarantining in Los Angeles.

Tommy Bahamas:  Nate discovers this store when he realizes he has to do his own shopping and realizes how much cheaper it is than Vineyard Vines.

Patagonia:  Not only are their clothes very similar to Nate’s, but they’ve also given up to $74 million to domestic and international grassroots environmental groups.
