“To me, “natural beauty means feeling good, and confident in your own skin! It’s a radiant light that shines through one’s personality.”
A. Tell us about where you’re from.
I’m from Singapore, an island city-state known affectionately as “the little red dot;” Fun fact: my total flight period from Singapore to Boston (inclusive of transits) took a total of 22 hours!
B. How does the weather at Amherst differ from back home?
Singapore is warm, tropical, and gloriously sunny all year round. Amherst has beautiful summer-autumn transitions, and I’m hoping for more sunlight / warm(er) temperatures as we approach the end of the year.
C. Why did you choose to attend Amherst?
I loved the idea of a small liberal-arts college, composed of a close-knit community, replete with beautiful nature scenery, and a charming college town. Amherst also has a well-established Literature department, which is important to me as a Literature major.
D. What are you interested in both academically and leisurely?
Academically, I’m interested in languages, literature, culture, economics, finance, and current affairs. My leisure pursuits include being a connoisseur of culinary delights, reading, playing the piano, illustrating, writing, fashion, and trying out new sports/activities.
E. Â What are you most passionate about?
I’m passionate about trying to add happiness/beauty to the world: whether it be through words, tales, art, music, design etc.Â
F. Tell us the best memory of your first year.
My suite (spontaneously and successfully) converted our living room into a pseudo omniscient fortune teller’s booth, complete with disco strobe lighting, dulcet tunes, exotic scarves, and false credentials. We procured many happy guests, who enjoyed the random night activity as much as we did.Â
G. What are your plans for the rest of your time at Amherst and beyond?
I hope to meet more new people, try out new activities, and push myself out of my comfort zone!Â
H. What is the best compliment you’ve received?
That I reminded her of a barbie doll, in the best way possible (I laughed, but it was certainly memorable!)
