“Turn and face the strange….”

Most of us awoke on the morning of January 10th to the sad news of David Bowie’s death. A man and a worldwide legend, suffered quietly from cancer. Bowie released a final album before passing away that Sunday. Some may be left asking why Bowie’s career was so influential, and his death so impactful. Bowie was unapologetically himself, always. Bowie represented the strange in all of us that was just waiting to bubble to the surface. Not only was his music phenomenal, but his personality and overall view of life was one that will forever leave an impression upon both the young and old.

We’ve dug around and compiled our ten favorite, most profound quotes from David Bowie. Read them, ponder, and enjoy what is left of the man, the legend, and now, the legacy.

1.       “Maybe I am insane, too — it runs in my family — but I always had a repulsive need to be something more than human. I felt very puny as a human. I thought, ‘Fuck that. I want to be a superhuman.”

2.       “ You can neither win nor lose if you don’t run the race.”

3.       “There’s a terror in knowing what the world is about.”

4.       “I’ve come to the realizations that I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing half of the time.”

5.       “Fame itself… doesn’t really afford you anything more than a good seat in a restaurant.”

6.       “As you get older, the questions come down to about two or three. How long? And what do I do with the time I’ve got left?”

7.       “The truth is of course is that there is no journey. We are arriving and departing all at the same time.”

8.        “That’s the shock: All cliches are true. The years really do speed by. Life really is as short as they tell you it is. And there really is a God – so do I buy that one? If all the other cliches are true… Hell, don’t pose me that one.”

9.       “All my big mistakes are when I try to second-guess or please an audience. My work is always stronger when I get very selfish about it.”

10.   “I don’t know where I’m going from here but I promise it won’t be boring.”
