As hard as it is to admit, the weather is finally changing. No more short sleeves, no more fall days that feel like summer, no more afternoons spent outside with your friends. Okay, okay, enough of what we’re missing out on, let’s focus on what we can do this time of year!
Â
Fall and winter don’t have to be gloomy and antisocial; there are a lot of fun things to do during these seasons too! Here are 6 ideas for nights in, when the wind is howling and going out just doesn’t sound appealing.
Â
1. Host a Spa Night
Get your girls together and have a “Spa Night” on a wintery evening in. Tell your friends to bring over their favorite nail polish color, chick flick, candy, and bottle of wine. Host it at an apartment that has a bathtub, that way you can each soak your feet for a pedicure. Wearing pajamas is a must and worrying about calorie consumption is not allowed!
2. Fiesta time!Â
Mexican food is one of the cheapest and most delicious foods you can eat as a college student. ACP has become a staple for us Mountainners, but why not change it up a bit? Â Throw a mexican fiesta for you and your friends! Delegate who’s bringing what – cheese, lettuce, chips, salsa, all the good stuff. Cook the meal together and split the costs of the food. Margaritas aren’t just for the summer either, you know! Cook, chow down, and catch up on life.
Â
3. Clue and Spoons and Catch Phrase, Oh My!
Playing games is one of the easiest ways to socialize with a big group. Get a bunch of people together, guys and gals, and tell them to bring over their favorite board game. Make sure that the game you choose works with the number of people you’ve invited! Bring back the classics like Monopoly, BopIt, and the card game, Spoons. If you’re really bored, you can even turn them into drinking games. Everyone is sure to have a great time, and it’s nice and cheap!
Â
4. TV Show Marathon
We all have one, that classic TV show that we just can’t get enough of. Whether it’s Friends, How I Met Your Mother or Sex and the City, almost every television show can be found on DVD these days. Hit up Blockbuster for your favorite season and have a viewing marathon, playing disc after disc, late into the night. Try not to quote every line though; you don’t want to be that girl!
Â
5. Chocolate, Chocolate Everywhere
Who doesn’t like chocolate? Not anyone that I know! That’s why having a Fondue night is the perfect solution to the wintertime blues. Find a friend with a fondue pot (if no one owns one, splurge!) and get to melting. Tell everyone to bring their favorite fruits, cookies or chocolate to melt. Peanut butter or butterscotch chips would be a delicious option too! White, dark, milk or bittersweet…if it’s melted, you can’t go wrong!
Â
6. Talk Crafty To Me
Craft nights have always been a classic standby when it comes to nights in. Check out Pinterest, which has crafts galore, where you and your friends are sure to find an idea that you’d like to try! The key to crafting is creating something that you’ll actually use! As fun as it is to create a magazine collage, the twelve you threw away from high school prove that it’s just a waste of time. Try something like an earring holder or flower bobby pins! Split the price of the craft supplies so that it’s fair for everyone invited.Â
Cold nights in give us a chance to relax, bond, and just enjoy each other’s company. Have fun!Â
