Appalachian’s Best On-Campus Napping Nooks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

It’s 2 o’clock on a Wednesday afternoon 5 weeks into the semester; the infamous “hump day” is upon you but the only hump you’re trying to get over is your own severe exhaustion. With two classes down for the day and one more to go, your focus is wearing thin. With an hour and a half to kill, the only thing on your mind right now is finding a comfortable place to sit down, putting your feet up, and closing your eyes.

Sound familiar? We have all been here before. When nothing sounds better than a nice long nap but you have to make it to your next class, where do you turn? For the quietest and comfiest spots to take a snooze look no further than these on-campus campus corners.

[pagebreak]

1.     The Third Floor of the Library: It isn’t called The Quiet Floor for nothing. The one place on campus that you are sure to find hushed whispers (minus the occasional accidental cell phone ring) is the best place to escape from it all and enjoy dreamland.

2.     The Trees in Front of Duck Pond: When the weather is right, head up stadium to take a nap in nature. Nothing is more peaceful than listening to the rustle of the trees and feeling that warm blanket of Boone sunshine on your skin. Warning: Hammock purchase may be required to fully enjoy this spot.

3.     The Second Floor Student Lounge in Raley Hall: Most people don’t even know about this place, which means it is a prime location for peace and quiet in the afternoons. If you find yourself bogged down with too many business classes, head to the lounge for a snack and maybe a quick snooze in between classes. Your brain will surely thank you.

4.     The Third Floor of the Student Union: Around lunchtime, the union is full of hungry and anxious students trying to grab a quick meal in between class. But, hit it at just the right time in the afternoon, and you’ll find the dull noise level is actually quite peaceful. My favorite spot is anywhere on the third floor where you are far away from the hustle and ruckus below. P.S. For the comfiest chairs in the Union, head to the study area next to the far stairwell in the new addition to the Union. You won’t regret it.

5.     The Resource Room in the Basement of the Education Building: If you don’t have any classes in RCOE, you may feel a little awkward using this room but I am telling you it’s the best. Designed as a break room for Apparel Design & Merchandising and FCS Education students, this room is well equipped with computers and full length couches. Not to mention, hardly anyone outside of these majors even knows it exists! I have personally napped here more times than I can count and trust me; it is worth the initial anxiety and awkwardness.

If none of these on-campus spots fit your fancy, you may just want to return to your own dwelling. Happy napping collegiettes!
