“Don’t bite off more than you can chew” was probably the most reiterated idiom my mother used to tell me growing up. And let me tell you, collegiettes, I am currently a 20-something WOMAN, nearing the end of her stint in college before entering the real world and I still need my mom to remind me not to let my eyes get bigger than my stomach.
(We’re a very idiomatic family if you couldn’t already tell)
I don’t know what I got myself into this semester. With 19 hours of classes and all of the extracurricular clubs and organizations I’m in, PLUS applying for internships this summer, I’m surprised I have yet to see a grey hair…
While some of you may or may not be in the same boat I am, here’s a friendly reminder that, in the end, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
(Are you keeping count of the idioms?)
While you probably want to cram so much into your college career to boast up your resume, don’t overwhelm yourself. When you’re sitting there, completely and utterly exhausted during your fourth class in a row that you have on Tuesday/Thursday (is that only me?), just remind yourself that all this work won’t be beneficial unless you’re alive to see it pay off.
I know this may seem hypocritical of me, but I know I am able to juggle everything I’ve taken on. I wouldn’t have done so otherwise.
Don’t forget to take time for yourself. I know I have loads and loads of homework to do, but I am going to set aside some time each week where I can take a bath, watch a movie or just sit back for an hour, all while enjoying a nice big pile of carbs, JUST BECAUSE I CAN.
This is what I will look forward to every week of this semester because I know from here on out, it will be smooth sailing.
Good luck this semester, collegiettes!
