Big City Trends: Boone Style

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

If you have ever lived in or around a big city, you know that each one is as unique and one-of-a-kind as the people in it. The big apple is certainly no exception, as every aspect of its culture seems to be radically different from our hometown feel here in Boone. Some of the most exciting things about the culture of New York are definitely the outrageous trends that we rarely see up here in the mountains. But who says you can’t bring some big city style to your small town wardrobe? With the right fit and a little confidence, you can successfully rock these trends with or without the city.

All that glitters:

Calling all sequin lovers, one of the hottest trends this season is sparkle and shine! While in New York City this past weekend, I literally saw glitter and sequins on just about everything. From their dresses all the way down to their shoes, these city slickers love to shine. The good news is, you don’t have to be dressing up for a special occasion to rock this look. Try pairing a glittery top with a great pair of dark-wash jeans and a fitted blazer for an awesome look that is perfect for the Boone bar scene. In an outfit like this, your confidence will surely out-shine your outfit.

Fur frenzy:

Think you could never pull off fur? Think again. City dwellers use fur accents on the regular not only to keep warm, but also to make a bold statement. And you can too! A little fur addition can make the most budget friendly ensemble instantly look more expensive. Try incorporating a fur vest or cropped jacket into your everyday attire to instantly add some city flair to your look. Contrast the elaboration with basics that you already own to make your fur more Boone appropriate. Fur accents will not only make you stand out in the crowd, they will keep you warm and cozy all winter long.

Winter wedges:

Wedges. We all love them and wore the heck out of them all summer. I don’t know about you all, but now that the weather has become too cold to show off those freshly polished toes, I have begun to feel a gigantic void in my wardrobe. Well ladies, our prayers have finally been answered in the form of a pair of lace up wedge booties. Not only are they extremely comfortable, but they will also provide a little extra spice to even the most dull of outfits. Wear them with tights and a dress or skirt or pair them with a simple pair of skinny jeans to get a high fashion city look that is perfectly fitting for our Boone weather.

There is no doubt that some city trends can be a little outrageous and unusual for our conservative little town of Boone. But, with a little modification, you can incorporate a city trend into your style and make it one hundred percent your own. After all, the best way to conquer a trend is to be confident and simply go for it!
