Whether you’re live in Boone full time or are just visiting, there are certain restaurants in town that you have to hit.
Some of the must-hit places:
Macado’s
Although they have locations in North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, and Tennessee, Macado’s is a classic in Boone. The best part about this place is the specials they have every day. However, they are dine-in only. The 35 cent boneless wing special on Sundays is particularly popular, although they have been known for their great sandwiches too. And, they do catering! If that doesn’t spike your interest, maybe their 5-star rating on Trip Advisor will.
Coyote Kitchen
This restaurant is located near Walmart and is perfect if you want a healthier selection of food. Their boats are a crowd pleaser. Don’t be fooled by the name, it comes in a long, narrow boat-like casserole dish, layered with various ingredients like beans and veggies and broiled with cheese. A popular choice is the Mojave. The Mojave has coconut, red beans, blackened chorizo sausage, grilled jalapenos, roasted corn, caramelized onions, mushrooms, and is topped with sour cream and scallions. It’s definitely a favorite if you like spicy food! They even have spritzers (a healthier alternative to soda), Izze sparkling juices, and organic fair trade coffee from Bald Guy Brewery on King Street. They also have a takeout menu for those of you who don’t feel like leaving the comfort of your own room. With a slogan like, “whatever you want, we got it,” who could resist? Even those with certain diets (vegan and gluten-free, specifically), and allergies are catered to.
Makotos Japanese Steak House and Sushi Bar
If you want good sushi, Makotos has you covered. You can sit at the sushi bar or watch them make the food right in front of you. How cool is that? They’re located on Blowing Rock Road right next to Walgreen’s and Chick Fil A.
Boone Bagelry
Want an authentic New York Style bagel? Boone Bagelry is the place to go. They have huge bagels in several flavors. Aside from their 15 different types of bagels, their menu is also full of other delicious breakfast foods and even lunch options. They also have a vegetarian menu for those of you who aren’t keen on eating meat. There are two locations: One on King Street across from Jimmy John’s and the other is by Studio West Apartments.
Black Cat Burrito
It might be a hole-in-the-wall, but Black Cat has amazing burritos. They also serve soups, salads, nachos, and quesadillas. You could even build your own burrito, nacho, or quesadilla. This place even has free entertainment. On the third Friday of every month, they have live music and dance parties. Go here if you want to eat some good food and have a good time. Black Cat Burrito is located near Footsloggers.
