There are only two weeks of classes left, everyone!!!!!!! But don’t let the exclamation points get you more revved up than you probably already are…that still means that there are two whole weeks of pure madness before winter break. Two weeks of papers, projects, presentations, tests AND THEN the week of exams, oh my! (I’m stressing just looking at my planner) and given the fact that our reading day is on a Saturday (boo), I’m sure we’ll all be fretting and—forgive the upcoming analogy if you’re big on animal cruelty—running around like chickens with their heads cut off.
I know I’m not the only one to think that for some reason the undergrad gods made this semester seem shorter than any other, and I, for one, am thankful for that. But over Thanksgiving break, I was surrounded by children who found the concept of time hard to grasp. So being the mature, philosophical adult that I am, I wondered, is it just because we’re getting older that time seems to pass by more quickly? I remember, as a kid, I used to try to my upmost extent to stay up until midnight on New Year’s Eve, but now, I can easily stay up until 2 a.m. and later. (But no matter how old I am and how late I stay up, I’m still grumpy the next morning)
You know, I’m actually bittersweet about growing up. Another year and I’ll be going out into the “real world” and maturing into the woman I’m supposed to be, but right now, I wish I still lived in that naïve little bubble that kids are in. They don’t have to worry about a recession or graduating and getting a job. I’d rather curl up in my pajamas and watch cartoons during breakfast on Saturday mornings than balance my checkbook or do any of the other grown up things that I’ll have to worry about pretty soon.
The silver lining to all of this is that we have one month off to do whatever what want (like being a bum at my parents’ house and watching cartoons) and that just makes everything so much better.
May the force be with all of you.
