Each year once spring break has come and gone, it seems as if getting out of bed to make it to class and getting all your work done becomes harder and harder to accomplish. On top of that, trying to maintain a social life, stay healthy, and get enough sleep at night almost becomes unattainable. Here are a few tips to stay productive enough to finish out the semester strong and not lose all your sanity while doing so:
1. Finish all your schoolwork during the day
I know, I know. Staying in the library until midnight is a habit that most college students have a hard time breaking. Yet, it is a miracle how much more productive we are during the daylight hours and how much more we can accomplish in a short amount of time. By studying and getting your homework done by 6 each day, you can free up your nights to social activities or completing other tasks, like laundry or extracurricular work. This is a great way to avoid all-nighters and still be able to maintain a social life while prioritizing school. Sleep is important, and enough of it will make it much easier to wake up for classes.
2. Establish a routine
This is so important. Going to bed and waking up around the same time everyday puts your body on a natural cycle and keeps you mentally sane. By establishing a routine, and sticking to it, you can ensure that you will get everything you need to do done within a day. This could mean setting aside a time to exercise between classes, or meeting with a friend for lunch.
3. Make your bed
People underestimate the power of making your bed before you leave your room in the mornings. By making your bed, you are not only ensuring that you won’t get back in it, but you are also setting the tone for the day ahead. Leaving your room with a sense of small accomplishment only motivates you that much more. Plus, it makes your room look soooo much prettier when you get back home.
4. Create “me” time
In the midst of the day to day bustle, it is essential to set aside a time to relax. This could simply mean lighting a candle, taking a bath, and binge watching Greys Anatomy. Whatever puts you at ease, and takes your mind off of all the obligations you have ahead of you. An even better way to do this is by exercising. Not only is it healthy for your body, but also for your mind.
5. Set Goals
Realizing that putting in adequate work gets positive results is such a motivating factor. As you continue to receive better grades and feel balanced, goals you may always have had suddenly seem within reach. By setting goals you have “benchmarks” to reach until the end of the year, and you focus more on the goals ahead than getting to summer break.
All in all, the last half of second semester can seem like it goes on forever. Make the most of your time and try not to take for granted the months you have in your collegetown before heading home for the summer.
