Attention, barganistas! Ever found yourself drooling over Kourtney Kardashian’s style choices? I know I have. From her knee high Chanel boots to her cat eye sunglasses which she sports throughout all her reality appearances, Kourt has the look that all style gurus would die to have. When dealing with a college budget, however, getting the celebrity look seems close to impossible. Not to worry, readers! With a couple of tips from Her Campus, you’re sure to have the Kardashian look in no time.
As always, Kourtney is dressed to impress! Think we can pull off this look for a fraction of the cost? Of course we can!
Lesson One: Never underestimate a good clearance section
With my Kourtney inspiration in hand, I walked into the nearest shopping mall, confident that I would find what I was looking for. After going through a few stores and coming out empty handed, I chose to browse through GAP. As usual, the clothing was simple yet chic, but just too expensive for a college budget. Just as I was about to walk out of the store, I noticed a small clearance section in the back corner. Not ready to give up my search just yet, I walked to the back to take a look. There stood a single pair of high waisted, flared jeans. And guess what? They were my size! They fit perfectly, and I walked out of the store only spending around $20.
Lesson Two: One fashionista’s junk is another fashionista’s treasure
After finishing up at the mall, I chose to explore my favorite type of store: a resale shop. My hometown had just opened up a new Plato’s Closet and I thought this was the perfect opportunity to explore the store and also look for new goodies to add to my wardrobe. I looked up and down the congested aisles but couldn’t find the right tank or blazer to go with my Kourtney ensemble. As I was double checking every row of clothing (make sure you’re thorough!), I noticed a selection of accessories hanging near the cash register. Although not the proudest moment in my life, I dug through a cardboard box of purses the store had just received and found a purse that was so similar to Kourtney’s! After seeing the $9.99 price tag, I knew I had found a winner. Pairing that with the simple black belt that I had also found, I walked out with a final price of less than $15.

Lesson Three: Super Stores = Super Selection!
After leaving Plato’s, I knew exactly where I wanted to go next. Give me a store with fashion forward clothing and cheap price tags, and you know I’ll be there. I’m talking about Target, of course! With such a wide selection of trendy clothing and accessories, Target is the perfect store for an aspiring bargainista. As soon as I walked into the women’s section, I noticed a table of v-neck tank tops in an assortment of colors. I found a tank top in the perfect shade, marked that off my list, and continued to browse through the store. As I walked towards the jewelry section, I noticed a selection of watches. Although I couldn’t see Kourtney’s watch clearly in the picture, I channeled my inner Kardashian and picked out the one I thought went best with the outfit. I chose a watch with a tortoise shell band for only $18. By the time I checked out, I managed to spend just $26!
Lesson Four: Borrow, borrow, and borrow some more!
I had saved the best for last. I needed to find a blazer that was Kourtney inspired without breaking the budget. After digging through a few Goodwill stores, I came up empty handed. Not ready to give up yet, I looked at some locally owned shops throughout my town, yet I still couldn’t find just the right blazer for my outfit. Just as I was on the verge of throwing in the towel, a light bulb went off. I had yet to ask my siblings or my roommate if they had anything I could borrow! Borrowing is the greatest form of bargaining; you get to wear the piece for free, nobody knows it’s not yours, and you still look fabulous! Luck struck me again, and my roomie lent me her signature black blazer. My outfit was complete!
Always remember, with a lot of patience, a little digging, and an alert imagination, you’re sure to find your dream outfit. Good luck shopping, Collegiettes!
