Before anyone can even comprehend what this is all about, please understand, I have curls. I have a lot of curls. And this is going to show you how I tamed my actual mane of hair. This is the end result of being a naturally curly haired girl and making it up as I went.

For those who have the same fate as I, my hair type ranges anywhere from a 2c to a 3b. It depends on the day, weather, and the phases of the moon. Those lacking in curls will not know this struggle, but they can laugh along as you bear witness to my hair journey.

For starters, the best my hair has ever been was when I was in elementary school. It was so long that I sit on it and then get it caught in those evil chairs that make sure you don’t leave with your full head of hair.

That is no longer the case. The first thing I learned about my curls, and this is the golden rule for them, do not brush them. Especially dry. You do not want to be angering the beast that is your hair, or you will look like you have the world’s biggest puffball on top of your head. You brush it only when it is wet and just after conditioning it.

The second thing that I have learned: Do not wash your hair every day. Disgusting, I know, that’s what I thought. But please refer back to the first item of how it will make your hair frizz and can actually break your hair.

The third thing is to learn to experiment. Now, don’t be like how I was/am. I am prone to wearing my hair in a bun, almost religiously. But I have found that sleeping in some of my product will shave a good few minutes off of my hair routine. Now, I personally use One ‘n Only Argan Oil Curl Cream, which I get from Sally’s Beauty. Totally recommending them, it’s where I get all of my hair care needs. The hair spray can vary, but I prefer Rock Your Hair Mega Volume. Ironic, considering that my hair with the hairspray is the same size as my hair without anything. Which is big. Very, very big. But with hairspray and product and any kind of diffuser, there can be found the occasional ringlet that can put Shirley Temple to shame.

Speaking of diffusers, you need one. Any kind. Just has to have the attachment. Or you can be like me, a broke college student. Turn your box fan on high and start scrunching.

Also, do not touch your hair. Once your hair is dry it is the no touch zone. Otherwise, you will be feeling like Hermione. It will flatten itself out. And you will suffer the consequences. Just don’t touch your hair.

And finally, have hair goals. Mine are Beyonce, Zendaya, and Lorde. When they are in their beautiful curly girl state.

Now let your curls free and make them happy. You’re stuck with them, ‘bout as well work with them than against them.
