How To Winterize Your Apartment

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

  1. Lights

A string of lights will instantly give your place a holiday feel. Trade harsh lighting for the glow of white lights hung around the room.

  1. Throw blankets and pillows

Trade out your year-round pillows and blankets for holiday-themed alternatives. You don’t necessarily need snowmen and reindeer; jewel tones and sequins will do the trick.

  1. Door draft stoppers

For a more practical tip – buy weighted doorstoppers to place by your front door to prevent drafts from coming in underneath.

  1. Candles

Having great smelling candles are a holiday necessity. You can go for the top of the line Yankee Candles or take the less expensive route and get off-brands at places like Walmart, TJ Maxx, and my favorite – Michaels; you can usually get a large candle for $4 of $5 in great scents like pumpkin pie, Christmas tree, sugar cookie, and glazed donut.

  1. Window covers

To stay warm this winter, invest in plastic window covers that stick on your windowpanes and prevent drafts from blowing through. You can find these fairly cheap at Lowes and they make a big difference

  1. Treats

You don’t have to be an expert baker to enjoy holiday treats. Scour Pinterest for easy recipes for your favorite snacks and spend the day baking with a friend. Or you can always just grab a red cup from Starbucks and premade cookie dough for an equally enjoyable experience.

  1. DĂ©cor

It’s hard to make an apartment feel like your own sometimes, but during the holidays, it’s your chance to go all out. Hang a wreath on the door, set festive tableware, and a put up a Christmas tree (because why the heck not). Take this time to make your place feel like home for the holidays.
