I had the privilege of going to New Orleans with the Appalachian State Marching Mountaineers as we supported our football team in the R+L Carriers Bowl. New Orleans has always been a destination on my travel bucket list, so I’m very excited to share a little photo diary of pictures from my three days in NOLA.
Those pictures are from our first actual night in New Orleans. We had band rehearsal throughout the morning to afternoon, so we finally got free time that evening.
Jordan and I got dinner at Daisy Dukes, a restaurant that was right around the corner from our hotel. While there, I got to eat (for the first time that day) the best gumbo and hot sausage po boy that I’ve ever tasted!
After we ate, we walked around and got to play tourist. We strolled around the city for over four hours that night. We even grabbed a second dinner to go as we were walking back to our hotel because we wanted to make sure we tried everything New Orleans had to offer! Our feet were pretty sore, but we were so happy.
These last pictures are a compilation of our last day, Saturday (GAME DAY). We got up early that morning and went to a jazz brunch. It doesn’t get much better than live jazz and waffles, honestly.
After breakfast we did a fair share of walking again and explored the city during the day time. One of our last stops before we went back to the hotel to shuttle to the bowl game was Cafe Beignets. I was in heaven. Coffee and beignets? It’s so simple yet so good! I got a little too excited and took a bite of one of my beignets before I took a picture of them.
We spent the rest of the day soaking up the city and shopping before we finally got to the real reason why we were there — the bowl game! Marching in the Mercedes Superdome was one of the most surreal experiences. I can’t even put into words how wonderful it was to be there and support the Mountaineers as they accomplished another bowl game win! I am so proud to be a Mountaineer, and I’m so blessed I had the opportunity to be apart of this experience. I would relive it everyday if I could. Until next time, New Orleans!
