When asked who is the most genuine person I know, Abby Humphries is who comes to mind.
Abby is from Huntersville, NC and is studying communications and public relations. She wanted to come to App State because she’s always felt pulled to the mountains. She has felt at home here, even when she was younger, so this was the obvious choice for her when it came time to pick a university.
Abby’s favorite thing about App State is that anyone can find their place and thrive here: “I love that there are so many things for people to get involved in that align with their talents and passions.”
Being President of Zeta Tau Alpha has definitely been one of the hardest tasks Abby has taken on, but she stays focused on the honor and responsibility of serving and leading 120 young women. “Giving so much of my time and energy back to ZTA is the least I can do for an organization that has given me so much,” Abby said.
Being a junior, Abby only has one year left at App State. What she will miss most about Appalachian and Boone when she graduates is the mountain air and everything that comes with it. “The mentality of everyone here is so mellow and content. I will miss being surrounded by that positive, contagious energy.”
“To be honest, I don’t really know what I want to do after college,” Abby admited. “However, I know no matter what I end up doing, I want to travel.” Whether it is across the country or the world, Abby wants to be somewhere where she can immerse herself in different cultures and people. “We were not meant to stay in one place,” she said.Â
Abby also has a huge love and passion for public relations and the power of social media and marketing (her Instagram game is STRONG. Check it out @abbyhumphries). “I would love to somehow find a way to combine these passions and talents into a job,” she said. “At the end of the day, no matter how much money or prestige I have, I know that I just want to be happy, because in the end, that is really all that matters.”
No matter what she does or where she goes after graduation, she’ll move mountains.
