What Do You Mean? Why JB’s New Song is Fire

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

What do you mean, Justin? Finally after months of seeing the Biebs in the news for doing everything but singing, he’s back with a new, hot single titled “What Do You Mean.”

So why is this song so freaking good you’re wondering? Why will all of the girls add this song to every Spotify playlist they currently have saved and play it on repeat while getting ready in the morning and driving to class? Why will all of the guys laugh at the lyrics until they realize what the song is actually saying? Listen up males and females because here’s why:

Biebs opens up the song saying: “What do you mean? When you nod your head yes but you wanna say no, what do you mean?”

That line right there is the summary of why communication fails between males and females. People don’t say what they mean and lines get blurry and someone thinks you like them more than you actually like them, then you basically get lied to because they said yes, but they actually meant no, but in your head you’re like “Oh they nodded so I’m good.” But
 like, what do you mean?

“You’re so indecisive of what I’m saying, trying to catch the beat, make up your heart. Don’t know if you’re happy, or complaining.”

Most of the time I don’t even know if I’m happy or complaining when I speak.  I think it’s a mixture of both and it happens so often that now I can’t even separate the two. Also, it’s hard to make up your heart when you are torn between two big decisions. We have ALL been there at some point in our lives… Thanks for reminding all of us about out past failed relationships, Justin.

He then goes on to say: “You’re overprotective when I’m leaving, trying to compromise but I can’t win.” All I can say to the first part is that people never know what they have until it’s gone. Straight to the point Justin, I like it. And oh the famous word, COMPROMISE.

com·pro·mise

ˈkĂ€mprəˌmÄ«z/

noun

noun: compromise; plural noun: compromises

‹- an agreement or a settlement of a dispute that is reached by each side making concessions

I’ll just leave that there for anyone who needs to be reminded.

The chorus continues with, “What do you mean? When you don’t want me to move but you tell me to go.”

This is a perfect example of modern day relationships. If a girl is mad at you and tells you to leave, you better not actually leave. If she sends you a text saying, “We can talk later, don’t text me back right now,” You better text her back or you probably won’t be talking later. These are all tests and relationships can be such a game sometimes. The smart ones, the males and females who endure the tests, are usually the ones who end up staying with their significant other.

As for the males, I’m not sure what they mean if they say leave
maybe they actually want you to leave? I don’t know because I haven’t figured out how their species operates yet
clearly.

So, to the girls out there who love this song (like myself), props to you. For the girls who don’t love this song, get with it because most likely a part of this song relates to you in some way.

For the males out there who “hate” JB
. Stop being jealous of his perfect skin and hair and embrace the fact that he made a good song about how annoying indecisive females are, then go tell your girlfriend to listen to it. If she’s cool, she’ll laugh. If she’s not, she may get angry. Let the Biebs decide if your relationship should last or not.

All in all, J. Biebs is making a comeback and I am back on the bandwagon. I’m adding this new song to my run playlist, shower playlist, even my Christian playlist because this song is heavenly. Thank you, Justin.

(P.S.- YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!)
