Name: Kate Nienhauser
Major: Acting BFA
Class: Senior (2014)
What made you want to be an actress?
I wasn’t good at anything else. I wasn’t good at sports so my parents put me in a class when I was little and I just loved it. I think it’s a wonderful art form and it has the ability to track the changes in our world.
How long have you been acting?
I’ve been doing theater since I was five, but I’ve been serious about acting since the ninth grade.
What is your favorite show that you’ve been in?
My favorite show it actually one that I did here at the university, it’s called “Love Song.” I play an eccentric burglar who’s a little crazy and squirrel-like and earthy. I break into this guy’s house but there’s nothing there, just a table and chairs So my characters decides to wait around for the owner of the house to get home. As soon as he gets home and turns on the light I start asking him why he doesn’t have anything and then we fall in love.
What are your plans after graduation?
I want to travel. Maybe move to Northern California and do some voice over work and maybe start traveling with a repertoire theater. That way I get to travel for acting.
So you want to do stage acting as opposed to film?
I act a little too much for film. In film acting every this face means something but in stage acting the audience never gets that close so the acting can be more over the top. Of course everything is changing and becoming more technology based and there’s a cool collaboration with film and stage, but I think it’s important to hold onto the roots of theater.
