A University of Arizona student is using her job to encourage her peers and customers to live a healthy lifestyle.
Jamalyn Ray, A U of A junior studying business and marketing, works full-time at Smoothie Factory. She has been a full-time employee for almost ten months. Working at the Smoothie Factory has not only improved her own eating habits, but also has had an influence on the eating habits of her friends. Ray has learned many unique health habits through her job.
Smoothie Factory makes it their mission to provide a healthy spot for students to fulfill their daily hunger and snack needs. The juice bar provides options in the way of nutrients, vitamins, protein powder, and natural supplements.
Ray enjoys working in an environment that inspires and enhances the minds and bodies of its customers.Ray feels that the company can better every person who comes in. She enjoys working for a company that positivity impacts the community.
As a student herself, Ray believes that promoting health and fitness to other students is her after-hours job. She hopes to set an example for friends and peers through her own eating habits.
“I’ve made a habit of sticking to raw foods and I’m learning to read nutritional labels and what they actually tell me,” said Ray. “I also notice a difference in the way I feel after eating something like an apple as opposed to a bag of chips”
Ray is a source of knowledge to those customers who come in looking for a new regimen to support their workout, to improve their eating habits, or just a boost of energy. She is trained to know recipes for all types of requests.
“A healthy diet is important because it increases focus, energy levels, and reduces overall stress levels and this is why I think it’s vital students eat healthier to enhance their performance in the classroom,” said Ray.
Ray actively works out at the gym, and takes yoga classes with friends she has made through her job. She thinks the best way to stay in shape is by finding a group of friends who has the same motivation for health and fitness as you do.
She also encourages all U of A students to come by the Smoothie Factory and ask her about how they can improve their bodies for a healthy inside and outside.
“Taking supplements can help to increase the amount of nutrients that goes to the body that someone might not be getting In their food or are naturally deficient in,” said Ray. “It can really help you get the most out of your workout session.”
