Long-time Maryland basketball coach Gary Williams announced his retirement Thursday. Why is this relevant to Arizona fans? Maryland wants Sean Miller to replace him.
Miller and Maryland athletic director Kevin Anderson are reportedly meeting in Las Vegas this weekend to discuss bringing Miller on board. But there are all kinds of conflicting rumors and “confirmed” reports. SB Nation and the Washington D.C. ESPN Radio affiliate are saying it’s a done deal: Miller to Maryland. FOXSports.com senior basketball writer (and former Wildcat) Jeff Goodman is saying the two haven’t even met yet, but thinks Miller could be “leaning” toward Maryland.
I know Maryland used to be a great program and is still considered to be one of the top jobs because of the school’s history, but more so than Arizona? Pshhhh. I can think of literally two reasons this job would be attractive to Miller: 1) He wants a crack at the ACC. 2) Ludacris raps about College Park, where the school is located. That’s it.
An official announcement is expected to be made Monday. Cross your fingers, y’all. I’m not ready for another coaching search.
