Welcome to a bright and shiny new semester, collegiettes! As you begin your new classes, get used to dorm living again and get back into the swing of things, you might overlook an integral part of college life: getting involved. No matter your year, it’s never too late to get involved. Clubs and organizations are a great way to meet new people, build up your resume, learn more about your interests, and have experiences you’ll remember beyond your college years!
Â
The problem (or perhaps the solution) with going to such a large school like the U of A is that the list of clubs is infinite. This can be incredibly overwhelming, but it means that you are bound to find something you’re interested in. To start narrowing down your interests, be sure to find your way over to the Spring Clubs and Organizations Fair next month. On February 1st, hundreds of clubs will be set up on the mall to inform you about their respective organizations. This is a great time to meet people from clubs, get information about each one, and figure out what you might want to get involved in.
Â
If you’re one of the only people who won’t be crossing the mall on February 1st, or you want to get a head start on finding a potential club, the internet is your answer. Visit http://arizonaorgs.orgsync.com to view an ever-growing list of organized clubs and organizations at the U of A. Keep in mind that this list is not inclusive of every single club on campus; there are tons of clubs that are not recognized that exist on campus. They might be harder to find, but it’s definitely possible. The website divides the recognized clubs up into categories to make your search that much easier. From the most popular organizations on campus like Greek Life (http://arizonagreek.orgsync.com/) to a club few have heard of such as the Street Performance and Incendiary Arts club, it’s nearly impossible to find a club that doesn’t spark your interest.
Â
Still haven’t found a club that suits your fancy? Make your own! All of the requirements to create your own club can be found at http://clubs.arizona.edu/. Chances are, you’ll find many people who share similar interests.
Â
Many organizations have specific information sessions beyond the club fair in February. To find out about those, many clubs have websites and Facebook pages to inform potential members. Don’t be afraid to show up to an informational session or meeting even if you don’t know anyone, 99% of the organizations on campus are incredibly welcoming and more than excited to get new members. You’ll never regret getting involved!
