How to Stay Healthy During the Holidays

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Arizona chapter.

Sneezing, coughing, repeat. Sneezing, coughing, repeat. During the winter season, this daily routine seems to be a part of every student’s schedule. With stress levels rising, finals around the corner and the excitement of the holidays and the winter season being just within reach, many students at the University of Arizona become ill. Pretty soon, the medicine shelves of local grocery stores will be empty as a result of the rising rate of illnesses among students.
With so many people sick around you, it must be impossible to stay healthy right? Wrong!! Follow these simple steps and you should be up and running like a brand new car!

1. Sleep
Although it may seem as if sleeping is not an option especially during such a stressful time of the year, it is absolutely essential.  A lot is demanded of our bodies during the day and sleeping allows us to rest and recharge.
2. Exercise
Even though it’s that time of the year where we are all busy, it is very important to set aside time to work out. Going to the gym, even for just a short while, helps your body stay in shape.
3. Eating Right
With the holidays come eating foods that may not be completely healthy. Try to refrain from eating foods that are high in fat in excessive amounts.
4. Wash your hands
It may sound like a silly hassle to put yourself through but it is absolutely necessary if you want to be illness free. There are millions of germs everywhere you go and on everything you touch.  Washing your hands after touching unclean surfaces and before and after meals is a great way to stay clean and reduce the passing of germs.

Follow these simple tips and you will be able to not only conquer your finals, but you will also be able to actually enjoy the holidays instead of being cooped up with a cold.
