I am 100% the conductor of the complain train, and honestly I don’t think I’ll ever make any effort to change that. Because than what could I POSSIBLY write about? So right now I want to complain about all the nifty little perks college athletes get. I’m not even talking about the obvious ones like basically being paid thousands of dollars to go to school, or the lucrative careers some of them are going to have. Nope I’m talking about perks like when they get to mob around campus in a golf cart whenever they’re injured, personal driver and all. I burnt the bottom of my foot the other day and as I was hobbling around campus watching these carts rip past me nobody offered me a ride! Granted I hurt myself doing stupid stuff like drunkenly stumbling on a hookah coal, a ride would have still been nice.
Or how about all the sweet gear they get? I basically wear the same Nike Frees everywhere, class, the gym, work, the strip club, wherever the wind blows me. These kids come to school head to toe in everything Nike, probably Nike boxers for all I know. I just wish there was a sport here at U of A called ProcrastinateBall or a maybe even a FailSpanish Team. I could be here on a full scholarship and be the captain, guaranteed.
Speaking of Nike though, our basketball team played their first game on Saturday in new grey Nike jerseys. Of the new jerseys Junior Solomon Hill told UA Athletics, “I like (the new uniforms), they’re supposed to be lighter than our other ones. They really change the game a lot.” Not to mention they look legit.
Saturday’s game was also senior day, and McKale center said good bye to this season’s five seniors, Kyle Fogg, Brendon Lavender, Alex Jacobson, Dondre Wise, and Jesse Perry. Although we do have a nationally ranked top 5 recruiting class to look forward to, these seniors will still be missed. Team leaders, Foggy and Perry both ended the regular season on a high note against UCLA. In what could have been a disappointing senior night, Foggy rallied in the second half with 16 of his 20 points while Perry added 12 of his 16 to clinch a win of 65-63.
This win was the much needed strong finish for Arizona as we head into tournament time but it was still rocky. In the crucial last moments of the game Arizona missed four of their six free throws (suspect), not to mention slow starting games for both Foggy and Perry will only hurt us against teams like Washington and Cal. Entering the Pac-12 tournament ranked 3rd in the conference, Arizona’s first game is against ASU, March 4th. I’m sure all of ASU’s three sports fans are jacked for the game.
Biggest competition for Arizona in the Pac-12 tourny and on their road to the NCAA tournament will be Cal, who we battled our way to a 4 point win with and Washington who we’ve suffered two losses from. I also know that nobody has forgotten Isaiah Thomas’ stupid buzzer banger from last year’s championship game. I guess it was kind of clutch if you’re into that sort of thing. Anyways, the conference champ will be the only Pac-12 team invited to the NCAA tournament for the 2012 season. Though pretty dismal, our conference heard a ton of bashing around this same time last year and if I remember correctly U of A made it to the elite 8 sooooo…ya. That’s my eloquent response to that.
A few things I will miss about our seniors:
Kyle Fogg: clutch free throws my freshman year against USC putting the game into OT. I think I lost my voice that game.
B-Lav: Last year’s dunk contest, accompanied by two cheerleaders dude did a roundoff backtuck into a dunk FTW.
Alex Jacobson: TREEEEEEEEEE
Dondre Wise: Isn’t that Nic Wises brother?
Jesse Perry: I honestly hate dreads but I hope he never cuts his. Also those faces he makes when he gets crazy boards: Priceless
Congratulations to the 2012 seniors, I’m sure I speak for all of ZonaZoo when I say thanks for everything you have done for this school and good luck in the future. Bear down and kick ass (am I allowed to say ass?) in the tournament! March Madness!
