Choosing a restaurant in Little Italy on India Street in downtown San Diego, Calif. can be a daunting task. Are you craving pasta, or just want to stick with a classic slice of pizza? Should you have an authentic, sit down meal or be simple and eat off a paper plate on the patio of family owned pizzeria? Luckily, there are many meals in a day and even more during an entire vacation. If you have to choose, here are my suggestions to satisfy your tummy.
Davanti Enoteca
Â
This small restaurant boasts authentic Italian meals. From appetizers of fresh baked bread, cheese, and meats, to oven cooked pizza and handmade pastas, Davanti Enoteca is sure to surprise your taste buds. The atmosphere is as welcoming as the food is flavorful. Stained wood and brick pillars give the place a rustic feel, while candles provide a warm glow. The customer service is also impeccable. Your waitress will be more than willing to explain a dish, your water glass will never be empty, and your food will be out quickly. Overall, I was extremely satisfied with my experience in Little Italy.
But now to the important part….DESSERT!
Extraordinary Dessert
Â
When I first heard the name of this restaurant, I thought that “extraordinary” had to be an exaggeration. However, from the first glimpse of the impressive variety of decadent desserts offered, it was clear this was not your regular dessert diner. Cupcakes were topped with rose petals. Patterns of chocolate and caramel drizzle decorated pastries. Powder sugar dusted the most delicate of cakes and pies.
It took awhile to decide simply between a fruity or chocolate dish, cheesecake or pie. Finally I decided to have the Strawberry Raspberry Croissant Bread Pudding. But did it ever live up to my expectations!  The croissant bread made a crispy, flaky, buttery topping and the inside was a traditional warm bread pudding. The syrup that topped the bread was a combination of sweetened condensed milk and a raspberry syrup. The flavor was neither too sweet that it smothered the pudding or made your teeth ache, but was refreshingly fruity and tangy.
Here are some other desserts I had a bite of and definitely recommend.
