My alarm clock rings once again, pulling me out of a dream, or should I say, a nightmare. I forget about my literature final essay until 5 minutes before the deadline, and in those final moments, I delete my email account, crafting the illusion that a glitch, not my own forgetfulness, prevented me from submitting. Regaining my composure, I begin to chuckle slightly. After all, I still have three days until the actual deadline. Why would I forget to write my own essay? I open my phone and notice it’s 11:00 in the morning. I have the whole day, and I will write my essay.
Monday, 12:00 pm:
I’ve spent the last hour engaging in various tasks, feeling content that I’ve started the day on a positive note. Admittedly, I did scroll through Instagram for twenty minutes, but that’s not too bad. Moreover, while scrolling, I found a compelling reel that introduced me to a study technique that I think will work great for me. I really needed those twenty minutes on Instagram. I also showered and got ready, and as I started doing my makeup, I remembered the eye look I came across while scrolling through Instagram. I had to try it at some point, so might as well just do it now, right? While doing my makeup, a little eyeshadow falls on my phone, and I brush it off. I open my phone and see it’s 12 in the morning. I have the whole day, and I will write my essay.
Monday, 2:00 pm:
I feel hungry, craving my favorite ramen. Food is fuel for me, so I decide to take some time out of the day and make it. I plan to start the essay afterward since I won’t have time to eat, so I better just eat it now. But wait, I don’t have cheese, and I always add cheese to my ramen, so I have to go to the tuck shop to get it. Actually, that makes more sense. I could also grab a couple of cans of coffee, to sustain me throughout the night. I should rush to get it. I grab my ID card, keys, and phone. I open my phone and see it’s 2 in the afternoon. I have the whole day, and I will write my essay.
Monday, 3:00 pm:
I’ve made my ramen, but it is impossible for me to eat without watching something. After browsing through the new and popular tab on Netflix, I realize I’ve either watched all of them or am not interested in the available options. I switch to YouTube. The video that catches my eye is “50 things to crochet as gifts.” The thumbnail looks pretty, so I start watching the video. As I skim through the video, I come across a lovely bucket hat, and an idea strikes me. I should make this bucket hat for my friend! I open my phone to calculate the time it would take me, and see it’s 3 in the afternoon. I have the whole day, and I will write my essay.
Monday, 9:00 pm:
I’ve made the bucket hat for my friend’s birthday (a task for my friend’s birthday that I had to complete). I’ve also made a cushion cover inspired by strawberry granny squares in the video ——a task I had to complete. I’ve made half a tote bag (needed a new tote for classes; the old one was too overused) —— a task I had to complete. I open my phone to see how much time has passed. It’s 9 at night, and I will write my essay.
Monday, 10:00 pm:
Feeling accomplished for the day, I open my laptop to start writing my essay, finally. However, I notice there are so many crumbs on my laptop, and they’ve gone into the keyboard too! I have to clean it fast. I take my earbuds and get to work. My laptop looks squeaky clean, and now I can do my work well. As I open Google Docs, I hear a knock on my door ——it’s my friend. I open my phone to check the time as I let her in. It’s 10 at night, and I will write my essay.
Monday, 11:59 pm:
I’ve had a long conversation with my friend. I check my phone to see how long we talked. It’s 12 at night, and I have the whole night. I will write my essay.
