Juggling Modeling and School: Cristina Irimiciuc

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at ASU chapter.

Whether she was struttin’ down the runway or hitting the library, Cristina Irimiciuc did well during her time at Arizona State University. Cristina is not your typical ASU alumni. She speaks perfect English and Romanian and she is a model with Ford/Robert Black Modeling & Talent Agency. It is rare to find Cristina without a smile on her face and determination pours through her hazel eyes. She learned various math lessons, english lessons and science lessons in college. But the most important lessons that she learned? Life lessons.

Where were you born?

I was born in Suceava, Romania in Eastern Europe, and I came to AZ with my family at the very young age of 18 months.

When did you attend ASU & when did you graduate?

I attended ASU West Campus in 2006, and I graduated in 2009.

What did you graduate with?

I graduated with a bachelors degree in Communication Studies.

What was your favorite part about ASU?

I really enjoyed the West Campus, and I enjoyed that it was so close to home.  I enjoyed that they were open early and that they stayed open late to accommodate all of our different schedules.

What do you miss most about ASU?

I miss the freedom to go to the library and get on a computer or work on an assignment with people around you doing the same exact thing and motivating you to fight the fight!

When did you start modeling and when did you sign with Ford?

I started modeling at the age of 15, and I signed with Ford at the age of 20.

What was a challenge about modeling and going to school?

A challenge about modeling and going to school was that I was almost hoping to not get an opportunity to travel with modeling, because I knew that I may have taken it and then plan on going back to school, but I was also enjoying school and understanding the importance of education.  At times, I would have to miss a class or a day if a modeling job came up, but I was able to make it up.  I’m glad it worked out and that I could still model but get my education all at the same time.  I’m very grateful for the fact that I started but that I also finished.  I am still involved in modeling.

What are some of your biggest modeling jobs in you career this far?

My biggest modeling jobs in my career this far consist of the following:

I was on an episode of America’s Next Top Model hired on the show as a professional model to work with the contestants on the show.  I also had the opportunity to travel to Hong Kong with one of my clients through Wilhelmina (my agency in LA).  I have interviewed and shot with Christian faith based magazines in AZ, LA and SD.  There is a Christian local radio station in Arizona doing a documentary on my modeling career and the purpose I want to have in my career, in my life and what I choose to stand for and represent.  I am so very thankful for where God has placed me.

What was the biggest lesson you learned in college?

The biggest lesson I learned in college was to not go by how you feel. Life happens, and we can’t control that.  There are days when we may not feel like getting up or going to school or we may not feel motivated.  But I’ve learned that you do it anyway.  Sometimes even if we can’t give our undivided attention for whatever reason, at least we showed up!  That’s more than half the battle.  Keep moving forward!

I am a hard worker and determined to get where I want in life. I am your typical girly-girl, I love pink and my favorite animal is an elephant! I am a junior at Arizona State University majoring in Journalism with a focus on PR. I have been modeling with FORD RBA since the age of five and absolutely fell in love with the Fashion & Beauty industry at a young age. I know exactly what I what in life and happy with the person I am becoming. I love my family more than I could ever explain & my friends have truly helped me get to where I am today. :)
