For a moment, I was enveloped by an overwhelming and nagging sensation of déjà vu. The “wait, I have been here before” kind of sentimental feeling enclosed my entire being, and my mind was totally convinced that I had been in this place before, at exactly the same spot. Leisurely but compellingly it all dawned on me and I realized I had definitely been to the Barrett dining hall before, well at least, kind of, if watching a scene from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone counted as sufficient evidence.
“Harry had never even imagined such a strange and splendid place. It was lit by thousands and thousands of candles that were floating in midair over four long tables, where the rest of the students were sitting. These tables were laid with glittering golden plates and goblets.” – extract from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
A million thumbs up to Barrett Dean Marc Jacobs for successfully recreating a replica Hogwarts Dining Hall scene from the Harry Potter film series. This not only makes us proud owners of an object of envy to friends in nearby colleges, but also gives us a sense of pride in having something to brag about. A privilege held by only a few elite schools such as Harvard, Yale, Oxford and Cambridge.
Honestly, I am not really a food fanatic, but with Hogwarts as your dining hall, you just can not resist. More so, when Hogwarts presents you (everyday) with perfect golden brown hot spicy wings, crispy baked potatoes, vanilla bean ice cream and creamy pistachio gelato just to mention my favorite, and don’t forget the fact that light-hearted and merry staff like Vicke come with the package.
With all this as part of the package, who could resist the pride of being part of the ASU community, and maybe, just maybe, the freshman fifteen isn’t bad after all.
