5 Fall DIY’s that Won’t Break the Bank

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Auburn chapter.

Everyone wants to decorate their dorm or apartment super cute, and the fall season leaves Pinterest full of sparkly and autumn-colored things. Here are some easy and cute fall DIY’s for those of us who are on a budget (and let’s be honest, who in college isn’t?).

DIY 1: The PSL

As soon as the first leaf falls, us college girls pile in our SUV’s and make the trip to the nearest Starbucks to get our PSL fix. After all, we’ve been having withdrawals since last season. Sadly enough, the price tag on our drug of choice this season is a steep $5.25, so here’s how to make your own at home with some pantry staples you probably already have in the fall season.

What you’ll need:

1 cup milk

2 tablespoons pumpkin puree

1 tablespoon sugar

ÂĽ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

ÂĽ cup strong brewed coffee

Whipped Cream

Microwave-safe bowl

Plastic wrap

Wisk

How To:

Combine all ingredients except coffee in your microwave safe bowl. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and make a few holes to vent. Microwave for 1-2 minutes. Wisk milk mixture for about 30 seconds, or until milk is frothy. Pour coffee into large mug and add in milk mixture. Top with whipped cream and sprinkle with pumpkin pie spice. Voila!

DIY 2: Scentsy Good Smelly Things

Everybody and their mother has a scentsy. They’re safe, come in a variety of styles and they smell like heaven. Or vanilla. Or Créme Brulé. Or wildflowers. Or anything your heart can desire. Here’s how you can make your own fall inspired version.

What You’ll Need:

3 tablespoon coconut oil

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon pumkin pie spice

½ teaspoon nutmeg

Microwave-safe bowl

How To:

Combine all ingredients in your bowl. Microwave just until coconut oil is melted; about 30-45 seconds. Pour melted mixture in your Scentsy!

DIY 3: Save Your Scarves for Summer

Who doesn’t love a good infinity scarf?! They’re perfect for making your otherwise plain fall outfit a little more interesting and put together. Don’t jump the gun and put them away as soon as warm weather hits, though. Here’s one way I style my infinity scarves at the beach or by the pool.

What You’ll Need:

Lightweight infinity scarf

How To:

Simply step in to the middle of your scarf and knot the excess fabric on the side. Instant sarong! Perfect for throwing on for a lake, beach or pool day!

DIY 4: Fall Printables

When decorating my apartment for fall, I always add some touches by replacing some of my photos with fall inspired prints. And the best part? These are FREE. F-R-E-E. FREE! This link has some adorable prints. My personal favorite is the “hello fall” print with the pumpkins. So many heart eyes.

DIY 5: Painted Entryway Pumpkins

It’s the small things in life that make me smile, and a beautifully decorated stoop to my little apartment does the trick. I already have a fall wreath I put out every year, but this year I wanted to add some cute little pumpkins to the mix. You can paint whatever you like on them, but I chose to do my initial on one and my apartment number on the other. You can even use fake pumpkins, just make sure they’re weighted enough to not blow away or fall over.

What You’ll Need:

1 large pumpkin

1 medium pumpkin

1 can spray paint (color of your choice)

Sharpie

How To:

Take your little cuties and spray paint them. I chose to paint one of mine copper and leave one white. Let dry. The next part can go a million different ways, you can decorate however you want! I chose to just use a sharpie and free hand my lettering. Arrange on porch. Your neighbors will be jealous!
