Summer is just around the corner, which means that college students everywhere will be starting a summer internship, sometimes the first one ever. Here’s everything you need to know to make the most of your internship.
Treat your internship like a ‘real’ job.
To get the most out of your internships, you must treat it like you would on any other job regardless pay. Remember that your every move would be scrutinized and your work would have an impact on company or organization. Your contributions and mistakes would affect everyone.
Be Flexible.
Organizations have different cultures and communication styles. As an intern, being able to adapt to different situations would inevitably open up several opportunities for you.
Start networking.
As an intern, you have so much work to do and so much on your plate that you forget to network and get to know your colleagues. Take this opportunity to build quality relationships. The more your colleagues get to know you and what you’re capable of, the more support you would get when it’s time to turn your internship into a full-time job.
Socialize (but with care)
It’s great to get to know one another in the office but take care not to share too much about yourself with your colleagues, and also watch your behavior. Better to be safe than sorry.
Keep tabs on your accomplishments.
For the benefit of future job applications, immediately begin keeping track of specific facts and figures about your performance. It would definitely help when writing your resume for a new job and would impress your employer.
