Freshman Haley Hurt has a passion for dancing, but her favorite type of dance is a bit different from traditional ballet or jazz. Her dance of choice is Irish Step!Â
Â
I must ask, are you really Irish? Haha I am 1/16 Irish
How long have you been step dancing? For about eleven years, I competed for nine of them.Â
What other types do you enjoy besides Irish Step Dancing? I’ve also done ballet and interpretation or modern dance. I just love performing and dancing in general. I’ve always been doing Irish dance and competing all the time before college, but modern is probably the most fun.
What got you in to dancing? A family friend had their daughter dancing and my mom knew how much I enjoyed dancing. She did not like the inappropriate dance moves for modern or jazz for me to do at such a young age, so she started me in step classes
Do you still dance now? I do it for fun and perform occasional but no longer take classes.
Delta Sigma Phi’s Miss Fall Rush is coming up, and you are Kappa Alpha Theta’s representative. Are you going to dance for the talent portion?Â
Yes, I’ll be doing a slip jig.
What exactly is a slip jig?
There are multiple different dances, reel, slip jig, treble jig… It’s all depends on the rhythm and the shoe
How is rehearsal going so far?
It’s awesome, so much fun. I’ve met some really nice girls from other sororities.
If you want to watch Haley Irish Step Dance, come out to Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity’s Miss Fall Rush Pagent on November 20, 2013 in the Auburn Arena!Â
