THIS IS HALLOWEEN, EVERYBODY MAKE A SCENE!
A Collegiette’s™ Guide to Halloween 2012
It’s that time of year again! The chill of autumn is in the air, mixed with the slightest hint of spook. The Halloween candy lines the shelves, costumes are already going on sale, and movie theaters are filled with the latest horror flicks. Halloween will be upon us next week, and whether you’re celebrating this weekend or next, Her Campus has the guide just for you!
When it comes to getting in the spirit, you don’t have to spend a ton of money to decorate your dorm room or apartment. Dollar General has great decorations for super cheap, like window clings and festive garland. Luckily, since the holiday is fast approaching, most retailers have already marked down the items to make room for Christmas décor. Target and Hobby Lobby already have most of their Halloween items on sale!
If would rather save money for an amazing costume, television is always there to get you in the Halloween mood! ABC Family has already begun their 13 Nights of Halloween, showing classics such as The Nightmare before Christmas, Hocus Pocus, and The Addams Family movies.
We all remember the infamous line from Mean Girls—“In Girl World, Halloween is the one night a year when a girl can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it.” Now, if you’re anything like me, and you’d like to be a classy collegiette™ this Halloween there are plenty of ways to show your sassy, sexy side without having other girls whisper as you walk past. You can buy a more conservative costume (Target already has select styles on sale!) and add your own touches. A quick whipstitch can change the length of your outfit, and the right accessories can make you look absolutely hot. And a pair of fishnets and a heel to give your look a little edge, and apply your makeup a little more sultry than usual. You don’t necessarily have to look slutty to look sexy!
If your Halloweekend will involve some partying, there are plenty of cocktails to get you in the frightening spirit. Pinterest, Food Network, and even Party City websites are full of delightfully haunting drinks to get you ready for a scary night out. These websites, and many more, offer recipes for delicious appetizers that will help you celebrate the holiday.
And even if Halloween isn’t your thing, it’s always exciting to spend your night celebrating the beginning of the semester’s end with your girlfriends with a festive night out!
