MBTI Types and Finding Yours

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Auburn chapter.

My Favorite Four-Letter Word…

…no, not that one, the other one—MBTI. Okay, so, it technically isn’t a word, but just roll with it for a second.

You might have heard of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, or you might have been forced to take the quiz by a well-meaning high school teacher in an effort to help you pick a career (P.S., you don’t have to know what you want to do for the rest of your life, even if you’re in college, but that’s a story for another article). You might have even seen a combination of letters like ENFP or ISFJ on a Tinder guy’s bio.

Either way, I’m going to tell you to go take/re-take that quiz, like, right now. Drop whatever math problems you’re practicing or whatever literature report you’re writing and go to this link. The quiz takes ten minutes tops to complete, and it’s so worth it! Your results help you learn how you study best, and knowing your friends’ results can help you know how to handle tricky situations like heartbreaks or arguments.

Oh, did I mention that websites like Pinterest, Tumblr, and ThoughtCatalog have MBTI-related content that will have you rolling in the floor laughing out loud? That’s the main reason I love mine so much. I’m an ENTJ—a.k.a. the “if a nuclear bomb had a human face” type. Charming, no?

Without getting too science-y, the test will indicate your two main “processes,” which basically means the way your brain handles everything from emotions to factual information. More broadly, here’s what each letter, in order, means.

  1. Extraverted (E) vs. Introverted (I)—do you “recharge” by being alone or in a group of people?

  2. Sensing (S) vs. Intuition (N)—do you perceive and validate information based on the external world or internal world?

  3. Thinking (T) vs. Feeling (F)—Do you make decisions based on logic or on emotion?

  4. Judging (J) vs. Perceiving (P)—Do you like a solid plan and organization, or are you more of a free-spirit and natural improviser?

Now, these letters aren’t hard and fast rules, as many people can go back and forth between the two functions of each letter. Your quiz results will also tell you that!

Anyway, enough of the background. Now for the fun part!

1. Types During Finals

2. The types regarding emotions

3. What’s really coursing through your veins

4. What slightly insulting thing you really are

5. Types when they meet a new person

6. Why you got detention based on your type

7. The types as villains

8. The types around people they hate

9. The types as students

10. The types as untranslatable words (I’ll Venmo you $5 if you put this in all of your social media bios)

In short, knowing your letters basically validates your quirks because you know there’s a legitimate psychological reason (or something like that)! I’ll be sure to keep these things coming because I am *obsessed* with the types.
