College. It’s what you’ve counted down to, made lists for, and probably cried thinking about. Chances are, you were a lot like that as the summer dwindled to a close, as was nearly every other girl here at Auburn. You look at college as a chance to start over, to be a brand new person, and the beginning of life. And to be honest, that is exactly what it is! I don’t mean to scare you when I say this, but nothing is the same anymore, and freshman year is a total transition period.
You’re going to find yourself crying because you forgot your house key, because you lost your computer charger, and maybe even because you just don’t know what to eat for lunch. There is going to be times when you get lost in the Haley Center and show up to class 20 minutes late. Professors aren’t always nice, and sometimes you’re going to fail a test because you just could NOT make yourself study while the VMA’s were on. You’ll probably end up staying out at 1716 until 3 am one night and skip your first class the next day because you literally cannot drag yourself out of bed. The X’s on your hand will take forever to scrub off and the bar cover charges will add up. Your roommate might accidentally put your favorite t-shirt in the dryer and cause it to shrink up three sizes too small which could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back and cause WWIII: roomie edition.
I literally am laughing as I type this thinking about last year when I was a freshman and all of the situations I found myself in. Crying on my bedroom floor because I accidentally sent a text message to the wrong person while studying for a biology final, spending almost all of my Tiger Card money on Starbucks and getting yelled at by my parents, being locked out of my apartment numerous times and having to get my guy friends to break in for me, getting my car towed during finals week (side note: Auburn Parking has zero mercy…not even for crying girls), and eating way too much Little Italy. While all of those things don’t sound so fun, they teach you so much about yourself and how to respond to situations. Life is tough and college is too, but I really do believe everyone when they say college will be the best years of your life. So go to the football games and learn every word to the fight song, eat way too much frozen yogurt, buy every t-shirt possible, and learn the transit system because campus is huge. But most of all, remember that never again will you be this young, carefree, or a freshman at the best school in the country, Auburn University!
Good luck and walk fast, nobody likes to be stuck on the concourse behind a slow person!
