There comes an event twice a year that gets the world buzzing about the latest and greatest trends that can range from sweet floral prints to edgy high-waisted goodness. New York Fashion Week 2013, also known as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, started September 5th and has all the celebrities leaving their lavish homes and grabbing front row seats to runway shows featuring the styles of Alexander Wang and Calvin Klein. Most collegiettes won’t be able to make it to Fashion Week, but can stay up-to-date by knowing the latest trends and celebrities making an appearance during these eight days of fashion and fun.
What trends will become popular this spring? The answer can be found on the runway. Floral prints will remain one of the top fashion do’s next year. Luisa Beccaria and Prada have their models rocking the flower dress trend on the runway, along with Ralph Lauren and Zac Posen. Dresses covered in flower petals and prints will work, but the showcase at Fashion Week from Paul & Joe proves you can make prints and pants work, too.
Another trend making a statement at New York Fashion Week is headwear. Kate Spade has the cutest beanies to accessorize with this spring with your favorite light sweater and boots. But the list of available head accessory is endless. Floppy hats and fedoras never seem to go out of style. Crop tops, another popular trend this past summer, will also be a bold choice to wear out this spring. Whatever you do ladies, don’t quit doing those crunches!
While the designers are the biggest names at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, celebrities come out in their most fashionable attire to scout out what threads they want to be seen in this spring. Kanye West sat front row to support Alexander Wang, and the Jonas Brothers made an appearance at the Richard Chai show. Other celebs who made sure to be seen in only their most fashionable outfits included Kelly Osbourne, “Girls” stars Allison Williams and Zosia Mamet and Nate Berkus whose Target bedding and bath style is getting high marks for its affordable prices and modern looks.
Another Target collection that hit Fashion Week and will be hitting stores September 15 is 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target. Jessica Alba and Solange Knowles were seen in his designs inspired by comic book prints and color blocking. Simple yet gorgeous satchels are also a part of the collection, as well as floral print dresses and pieces with leather accents. Lim’s pieces bring together New York’s hottest styles and reasonable prices proving that the celebrities may be front row at the runway shows, but New York Fashion Week can be for everyone, even collegiettes.
