From being such a busy, but sleepy, person, I have recently become absolutely addicted to coffee. I never thought this day would come, but I am typing this 3 cups later. . .Â
Like all addicts, I decided to do some research on my new found addiction. I wondered if what I was drinking, which seems like gallons each day, is doing anything good for my body. It is a common argument that coffee and caffeine are unhealthy, but for all the excessive coffee drinkers like me, I have found the opposite! After doing research on my new favorite drink, I found that drinking coffee can provide us with some health benefits!
For starters, plain black coffee is extremely low in calories! For those of you that add lots of cream and sugar, this can change because there are healthier ways to add sweeteners and to keep coffee at a pretty “low cal” drink. Harvard Health Blog says that drinking coffee has been linked to longer lifespans (Schmerling, https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/the-latest-scoop-on-the-health-benef…)! If this doesn’t make you happy about your drink, I’m not sure what will! Along with this, studies show that coffee has a lot of connections to the reduced risk of many different diseases as well. There are a bunch of different important nutrients in one cup of coffee! Different vitamins, fiber, minerals, and lots of antioxidants helps to keep our bodies healthy.
Since I am a student, and a really busy one, I was excited to hear that coffee increases energy levels because of the caffeine in each cup! Because of this energy, metabolisms are able to speed up in rate and make you burn fat as well. This energy helps on early, sleepy mornings, and when you hit that lull in your day around 3:00 pm like I do. Though having TOO MUCH coffee can become a problem, there is nothing wrong with a few cups a day! A warm mugful of energy, nutrients, and joy is a perfect way to start my day, and I don’t feel as guilty about my addiction anymore.
