Is The Peel Real?: Change Up Your Skin Care Regimen With a Foot Mask

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ball State chapter.

Last week I decided that I wanted to try something new. If you are anything like me, you get bored and want to switch up your self-care routine every now and then. I thought about trying a facemask, so I went online to look at different brands. I discovered that there are masks for all different parts of your body. I had no clue, but apparently there are sheet masks for your butt, boobs, arms, belly, eyes, lips and feet. Since I wanted something different, I went with a foot mask.

I chose to do a foot mask because as a college student, walking is my main form of transportation around campus. Logging a few miles every day can lead to blisters and sore feet so a foot mask is a great way to pamper them. These masks moisturize your feet and allow them to shed their dead skin. It is both beneficial and relaxing.

I went to Target to buy the foot masks and was surprised with how many options I had to choose from. I purchased four masks during my trip: an Aveeno repairing cica foot mask ($2.99), an Amope Pedimask ($3.99), Holler and Glow Purrfect Pedi ($3.99), and SpaLife Soothing Socks ($2.99). They were all shelved in the same general area, but it was difficult to locate them individually.

When debating on which mask to try myself, I randomly chose and ended up using the SpaLife Soothing Socks. I invited my roommate and two other friends to test out the other foot masks. Three of the masks were practically identical. They consisted of white paper socks that each of us slipped our feet inside. If you are going for the cute look, try out the Holler and Glow brand, which has a charming blue and pink cheetah print sock. The length to wear the socks varied but overall ranged from twenty to ninety minutes.

The packaging on my mask said that my foot would peel in seven to ten days, but it hasn’t started peeling yet. The other two similar masks haven’t led to any peeling either. However, the Holler and Glow mask did have peeling results that showed up within three to five days.

Overall, I enjoyed the experience of experimenting with the foot masks.  My friends seemed to love it as well and said that they found the process to be soothing. Next time you want to pamper yourself by enhancing your skincare routine, try thinking about other parts of your body that may need attention. My next personal venture will be an eye mask, I’ll keep you updated!
