The 5 Most Affordable Spring Trends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Columbia Barnard chapter.

Despite 45-degree weather in late April, spring is (technically) here! Luckily Erin Fetherston’s new XOXO collection for spring and summer is here too. We got a chance to see an exclusive preview of the collection, and it does not disappoint. Get a jump-start on spring and summer fashion with 5 of the best trends that this collection has to offer! And for college girls on a budget, everything is under $100 and sold at Macys!

Neon Music Festival

Whether you’re going to Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, or Electric Zoo, this trend is sure to impress the eclectic crowd that gathers at these events. Forget the floral crowns and bikini tops. Wearing a fun, bright jumpsuit with sandals or a neon sundress with boots or wedges will make you stand out in the crowd. If the festivals aren’t your scene, you can still wear this trend around town to liven up your “going out” wardrobe.

Geometric Cutouts

These complex geometric patterns and cutouts are the perfect accent for a simple black or white piece to give it a bit of playful edge. They are bold and eye catching. The silhouettes are large and small, vertical and horizontal, wide and narrow, and come in all different colors. This trend is great balance of sophistication and fun with just a touch of exposed skin. It’s perfect to wear on a hot day for a little bit of air.

Pop of Color and Embellishments

As expected, bright colors are in for spring. But a new update on the trend comes in the form of embellishments. Sequins, studs, and jewels adorn a variety of pieces like shorts, tops, dresses, and tanks. It’s a great way to dress up a casual outfit. If the bright color and the added embellishments are too much for you, play with smaller pieces, such as a bejeweled belt or sandals.

Black and White

Another trend this spring is black and white.  This simple contrast goes a long way, especially when accompanied by accents like leather.  Black and white pants, blouses, shorts and jackets allow for the mix and match of various pieces. The simple coloring also lends itself to the need for colorful accessories, like jewelry, shoes and totes – all of which XOXO has to offer! This black and white dress fits perfectly to any body and compliments any shape with the contrasting colors.

Leather

One of the biggest trends is the leather accent. The leather flare to these classic pieces not only adds a younger, more vibrant touch, but also makes them edgy. This edge appeals to most young women looking for something versatile; the leather allows for a cute outfit during the day and an even better outfit for a night out.
