Like many college students, I often find myself too busy to watch, read, or even scroll through the news. As a result, I’ve found a few ways to get my daily news fix without sacrificing valuable time. While social media may be the easiest way to gain information about what is going on in the world around you, it may not be the most accurate and unbiased news source you can access. Here are a few of my favorite news sources that help me, a busy college student, stay informed!Â
Â
Instagram Accounts to Follow:
Next time you find yourself mindlessly scrolling through Instagram, consider checking out these accounts. They have just the right balance of news and pop culture to take your scrolling to the next step.Â
@jerrynews — JerryNews provides the perfect combination of feel-good stories and real-world news through brief summaries of the story to keep you engaged without reading an entire article.
@VICENews — In addition to short blurbs addressing major headlines, VICE’s Instagram also includes videos to touch on important events and keep the viewer engaged.Â
Â
My Twitter Recommendation:
While Twitter may not be one of the most popular social media platforms, it still serves as a great source for all things news and entertainment.
@TEDTalks — TED Talks can put you in touch with some of the most brilliant people and ideas of our time. Taking the time to watch a quick video every day will provide you with more conversation/discussion topics and is a great way to get your brian moving.Â
Â
Newsletters You Need in Your Life:
I usually start my days by checking my email and what better way to get your news than having it emailed to you!Â
Baylor Lariat – As a Baylor student, it is so important to know what is going on within your campus and college town and the best way for you to find out is by subscribing to the campus newsletter!Â
Need2Know – This newsletter provides the perfect combination of politics, pop culture, sports, and entertainment to keep you well entertained and well informed.Â
Â
My Go-To Podcasts:Â
Podcasts are great to listen to while workiing out, doing homework, driving in the car, and even on your way to class.
The Daily –Â This is a New York Times podcast available through Apple Podcast that provides an entertaining, and sometimes humorous, approach to the news. Each episode is only 20 minutes and is posted first thing in the morning, five days a week. It is a great podcast to listen to while getting ready for your day.Â
Apple News Today – This podcast provides a daily update Monday-Friday of some of the biggest stories we’re hearing about today. Similar to the Apple news app, Apple News Today provides breaking news updates in short episodes usually lasting less than ten minutes.Â
Today, Explained – This podcast provides 25-30 minute episodes that touch on the big issues today and give you the straight facts without any of the political fluff you usually see on TV. What is best about this podcast is how the host makes the stories easy to follow.Â
Â
Spending hours watching or reading the news can be really inconvenient, but in today’s age of technology and social media, keeping yourself informed is incredibly easy. Be sure to stay updated by using Instagram, podcasts, and other platforms.Â
