In what seemingly felt like an instant, the entire world stopped. I don’t know about anyone else, but quarantining has become lonely and isolating. Despite all of the craziness in the world, this amazing girl gang and the community at Baylor University have helped combat these feelings of complete loneliness and sparked hope for the days to come. Here are a couple of ways to stay connected and succeed during quarantine: Baylor edition.
- Follow Baylor University’s Instagram for Some Encouragement
-
Wherever you are around the globe, you can find some encouragement in Baylor University’s official Instagram page through the pictures they post of campus, constant bible verse encouragement, and hearing how other people in the Baylor family are doing.Â
- Create a Studygroup Zoom call with Friends
-
It’s definitely hard for me to stay motivated to do schoolwork without other people around me so Zoom calling with friends for a study group is definitely necessary. Whether it’s just to keep me accountable from getting on my phone or if we are quizzing each other over test materials, studying with friends is definitely a way to stay more connected with your Baylor community.
- Utilize the Paul L. Foster Success Center
-
Having to transition from face-to-face learning to remote learning is definitely hard for anyone. Having to find different learning strategies to succeed in online classes. The staff in the Paul L. Foster Success Center is continuing to offer support services to students and staff to help you succeed in your classes through new studying and scheduling strategies.
- Counseling Services are Still Available
-
It is so important in such an isolating time to take care of your mental health and the counseling center at Baylor is determined to help you. They are not having in-person sessions but you can set up regular appointments through phone or teleconferencing. The counseling center is open from 8 a.m.-Â 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday and wants to speak to you!
- Throw a Netflix Party to Relax with Friends
-
I don’t know about y’all but I usually end up watching a movie or a TV show with my friends whenever I hang out with them. Netflix Party has allowed you to watch the same show/movie real-time with friends with a chatbox open so you can chat about what you like or don’t like about it! You can download the extension on Google Chrome (it only works on Google Chrome) and enjoy!
Obviously none of these things will ever make you feel as connected to Baylor campus as actually being there but until next fall these are some easy solutions to feeling lonely. It’s easy for us to fall into a cycle of feeling lonely and isolated when all we see such tragic things unfolding around us, but remember that we as a Baylor community want to help you. Please take care of yourself and stay healthy!Â
