This semester, Her Campus at Boston College was paired with the amazing Her Campus at Gonzaga University chapter. We thought it would be fun to exchange ten sayings that BC girls say and ask their chapter what they think these terms mean.
1. BC Lookaway
Gonzaga Definition: when you see someone you kind of know, but you aren’t sure whether you should say hi to them or not, so you just look-away
BC Definition: Seeing someone on campus who you know or vaguely know, but don’t feel like saying hi because it is either awkward or you are trying to avoid them; resorting to looking at your phone when you see someone you do not want to greet

2. Mods
Gonzaga Definition: Some sort of study center or place
BC Definition: Permanent “temporary” housing occupied by seniors with backyards and grills perfect for tailgating and parties; home to some of the craziest memories here at Boston College
3. Plexing
Gonzaga Definition: Planking or flexing
BC Definition: The act of going to the plex to workout
4. Marathon Monday
Gonzaga Definition: The Monday of the Boston Marathon in April
BC Definition: A day of no class and an all-day celebration of the Boston Marathon
5. Hillside
Gonzaga Definition: an academic building on a hill
BC Definition: One of the best dining spots on campus located right next to the Million Dollar Stairs; equipped with Starbucks and amazing sandwiches
6. Bapst or O’Neill
Gonzaga Definition: Choosing a good professor, or a good street to live on
BC Definition: The two libraries on campus that foster two complete different studying atmospheres; O’Neill is a larger library with more spaces to work, while Bapst is smaller, quieter and looks like Hogwarts

7. Doug Flutie Likes Girls
Gonzaga Definition: Just a saying that you say since Doug Flutie is a famous person on campus
BC Definition: A mnemonic device to memorizing the building on the academic quad: Devlin Hall, Fulton Hall, Lyons Hall, Gasson Hall

8. #gassongram
Gonzaga Definition: Something to do with Gasson Hall
BC Definition: An Instagram photo of Gasson Hall, the most beautiful building on campus
9. Upper Kids vs. Newton Kids
Gonzaga Definition: Whether you live on the Upper Campus or on Newton
BC Definition: The decade-long battle of which freshman housing community is better than the other; Newton is known for a “closer-knit” community while Upper kids have the advantage of living on main campus

10. Million Dollar Stairs
Gonzaga Definition: Brand new stairs that costs a million dollars or when you climb them your butt looks like a million bucks
BC Definition: The longest outdoor staircase at BC that connects lower campus from upper campus; most students resort to using elevators rather than taking these steps
