21 Drinks for your 21st Birthday

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Congratulations, you have made it to your 21st birthday. We all know what this means. Now you have the freedom to explore that coveted drink menu. There is a whole new world out there that you may now (legally) explore: the world of cocktails. Here is a list of 21 drinks that you may now enjoy (or pretend to enjoy) now that Johnny Law condones it:

1.  Mimosa

2.  Mai Tai

This tropical and fruity drink will remind you of better days spent on sunny beaches as its orange and pineapple juices mix with coconut rum.

3.  Cosmopolitan

4.  Manhattan

This signature cocktail is made with whiskey, sweet vermouth, and bitters and is typically garnished with a cherry.

5.  Martini

6.  Irish Car Bomb

This list would not be complete without a “bomb-shot” cocktail. A shot of Bailey’s Irish Cream and whiskey is dropped into a glass of Guinness for a whole mix of Irish flavors.

7.  Margarita

8.  Mint Julep

The traditional drink of the Kentucky Derby, this cocktail is a mixture of bourbon, water, crushed or shaved ice, and fresh mint.

9.  Tequila Sunrise

10.  Sangria

Fruity and tangy, Sangria is a refreshing combination of fruit and wine and sometimes other ingredients like brandy or orange juice.

11.  Long Island Iced Tea

12.  Screwdriver

College kids everywhere enjoy this drink on the regular without even knowing it! A simple combination of orange juice and vodka, this drink is not guaranteed to stimulate the palate.

13.  Beer

14.  Rum and Coke

Another classic, the name of this cocktail gives all the description one would need.

15.  Daiquiri

16.  Frosé

Take your “summer water” up another notch with one of the many recipes for Frosé (Frozen Rosé) and enjoy this lovely wine in slushie form.

17.  Whiskey Sour

18.  Moscow Mule

Often served in a copper mug, this drink is a mixture of vodka, spicy ginger beer, and lime juice, garnished with a slice or wedge of lime.

19.  Mojito

20.  Old Fashioned

Made by muddling sugar with bitters, then adding alcohol, such as whiskey or brandy, and a twist of citrus rind, this cocktail may be “old-fashioned” but never out of style.

21.  Bloody Mary

Remember, nobody is suggesting that you should (or could) try all of these drinks on the first day that it is legal. Pace yourself and enjoy this new chapter of your life. Cheers!
